The Dangerous Temper Tantrums of US War Hawks

Similar to petulant children who do not get their own way, there is an increasingly choir of war hawks in the US who are pushing for a major escalation in the Syrian war.

In response to the fading power of Washington in the world, and the success of the Syrian Army, Russia, Iran and Hezbollah, in fighting terrorism in Syria, the war hawks in Washington are calling for blood.

The fact that the government of Bashar al-Assad is still standing after the West has spent the last five years trying to overthrow it is too much for many in the US to accept. Furthermore, with a growing number of major powers forming strategic relationships outside of Washington’s control, US imperialists are increasingly terrified of how the geopolitical landscape is shaping up. …

[F]ormer Acting Director of the CIA and Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) member, Michael Morell … called for acts of aggression against a troika of powers – namely Syria, Iran and Russia. …

Morell, who has endorsed Hillary Clinton for President, is not a lone voice in his belligerent comments … Senator John McCain said … he might arm the Syrian rebels so they could shoot down Russian planes. … Zbigniew Brzezinski, called for US retaliation against the Russian campaign in Syria, potentially using military force. But the most belligerent rhetoric award … must go to the former US general, Robert Scales, who called for the US to “start killing Russians” in Ukraine … “start killing Russians. Killing so many Russians that even Putin’s media can’t hide the fact…”

On the same day as Morell’s interview was aired, photos appeared in the British media showing heavily armed UK Special Forces operating on the ground in Syria. This comes shortly after US special forces were pictured fighting alongside Kurdish forces in March of this year. ..

In August of last year, it was reported that British SAS soldiers were dressed as ISIS rebels conducting missions on the ground in Syria. In addition to the illegal air campaign conducted by the US-led coalition, the presence of Western Special Forces in Syria is yet another violation of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. …

With the West’s strategy in the Middle East in disarray, there is a growing amount of war hawks in the US who are pushing for a significant escalation in the Syrian war. Morell’s call for killing Russians and Iranians is nothing short of lunacy …

Morell favors a negotiated settlement in Syria.

The end of the civil war in Syria could offer one of two bad outcomes: a stronger more brutal Assad regime or a rebel government influenced by al Qaeda.

John Miller: I've spoken to intelligence analysts who have said an uncomfortable thing that has a ring of truth, which is the longer this war in Syria goes on, in some sense, the better off we are.

Mike Morell: Yeah. So I disagree with that. The best outcome is a negotiated settlement between the opposition and between the regime that allows for a political transition that keeps the institutions of the state intact.

John Miller: How realistic is that?

Mike Morell: The reason that is important, John, is because it's going to take the institution of the Syrian military and the institutions of the Syrian security services to defeat al Qaeda when this is done. And every day that goes by, every day that goes by, those institutions are eroded.

John Miller: So how do you more effectively influence that?

Mike Morell: Right now, Assad feels he's winning, so he has absolutely no incentive. So, enough support has to be provided to the opposition-- to put enough pressure on Assad-- to bring him to the negotiating table, but not enough support provided to the opposition so that they feel that they don't need to go to the negotiating table. It's a very difficult balance to strike.

As a career CIA analyst Mike Morell looks at a problem from every angle and what he sees in Syria is more complex than just a civil war. Behind the scenes he sees four wars. The people against a dictator, al Qaeda against secular government, Sunnis against Shias and a proxy war between the Saudis and the Iranians for dominance in the region.

Mike Morell: So this needs to be done with extreme care and extreme caution and that takes a little time.

Yea, he is big on negotiations.

Only problem is he is supporting SWC Hillary who is directly tied to Benghazi and one of the the worst drongangstas in US history.

Morell favors a negotiated settlement in Syria.

A "negotiated settlement", after Assad has been crushed. He is not interested in any negotiation, only crushing assad, and then dictating American terms.

Fork-tongued Doublespeak. They want Assad out, but they also want his government and army to be an American puppet.

Do you read the shit you post? Stinking wannabe puppet masters trying to dictate to the entire planet and getting their dirty little grubbies into the controls of every nation in the world.

And you post this shit like it's supposed to be a defense of this guy. "We" don't have any business doing any of that.
