Cool! I'm calling the ex, who I don't even get along with well, to let him know about this,I think he'll understand it better in Spanish. He registered republican to vote for Ron Paul in the primary :) It helps when we have common ground(our son) to motivate him. He wants the war to end.

philipsantamaria
12-09-2007, 12:54 PM
how do they feel about dr. paul's positions on illegal immigrants?

My family is Cuban...English and Spanish speakers.

We are all anti-socialist (for good reasons) and see how the flood of ILLEGAL immigrants burdens the Federal system which has become very top heavy with social policies. Ron Paul's message of free markets and civil liberties resonates well with the Cuban community here in Miami. Remember, the Cuban exiles are only exiles because Castro decimated the market system and completely obliterated civil liberties. So when they hear the libertarian message coupled with the Republican party (many are biased for Republicans over Democrats no matter what), they embrace it.

-

Meanwhile, today at Versailles (famous Cuban restaurant in Miami), Dr. Paul met with a few hundred supporters and he was in very good spirits. I could not stay too long...I have a big final test tomorrow...but I got to meet Dr. Paul again

My brother asked him about the Glen Beck crap, and Dr. Paul said they haven't even contacted the campaign...and that Glen Beck is just demagoguing for attention. Awesome Dr. Paul.

P.S. He drank Cuban Coffee today, if he drinks another cafesito before tonight he should be a fire cracker at the debate. Hurray Caffeine!

A debate for the presidency of America, and I can't even understand it because it's being broadcast in Spanish.

13% of US Population is Hispanic
20% of that portion speaks primarily spanish.

So we're catering to 3-4% of the population here.

what did ron paul say?

He said we've ran astray of our "Republican" values, the size of government has increased, we went to a war and are now spending billions there instead of here at home.

tsetsefly
12-09-2007, 06:18 PM
Paul(question, why have republicans lost the hispanic vote): IF everyone votes for the republican party they vote for less government, we have grown government, we condemdn clinton for going to war and now we went to war... hispanics want what americans want, they want peace security... we are in a war that is costing us... the republican party does not follow its own principles of peace, liberty and fiscal responsability...

needless to say i ate up half the response but these translators suck badly...

Paul (Quesion on english being the official language):
well is practical because we can all understand eachother, I think thsoe that attack billingualism(sp) might do it because they feel inferior for not understanding but we should have one language for federal matters. But the constitution allows for state to have bilingual schools among other things. Legal matter and federal matters should be dealt in english but states can have bilingual school etc.

(watching CC struggle is pretty funny! Paraphrased for brevity)

Q: The vast majority of hispanics are legal but people still hate on hispanics overall as dirty illegals. Negative sentiment. What will you do to change that?

RP: One thing is if we want to prevent more negavtive, we wont work on tamper proof ID, without doing it to everyone else? We have to when the economys weak theres resent bc of our welfare system our pay goes down. The welfare state puts pressure on people to resent something. If we deal with the welfare state and our overseas policy we fix our economy.

woah there, Gulliani took another swipe at Ron Paul. Paul gave a really popular answer to a question, then the next question was also to Paul, about chavez. Didn't get a good response when he talked about non-intervention.

Guilanni picked up on that and when asked the same question something to the effect of "I wouldn't treat chavez as Ron Paul says" Surprisingly he got booed. Sounds like there are a good about of Paul supporters there in Miami.

Question: How do you stop the anti-hispanic sentiment(which is non existant, imo)

Paul: el tono negativo una cosa es si queremos prevenir terminos negativos, no teneom id card, como podemos hacer eso,, tenerlas par immigrantes si no tenerlas para los demans, eso nos lleva a carnet nacional, recentimiento viene de la economic, hay recentimiento porque welfare afecta, trabajos se van al exterior, locas and state governments pressure by local gov to comply with welfare...
The negative tone is something we have to prevent and find where its coming from. First a national ID card for would be terrible, how could we do that, have id cards for immigrants? that woudl eventually lead to all americans requiring Id cards (applause followed). I think the resentment comes from the state of the economy, we have welfare, jobs leaving... Welfare affects local and state government who are pressured by federal law to comply with federal welfare mandates this creates resentment, what we need is a stronger economy...

Paul (how coudl we deal with chavez):well he is not the easiest person to deal with. But we have to talk, trade and deal wiht everyone, we did with stalin, mao etc. In fact we should trade and talk with cuba. Let me tell you why. We have created many of these leaders because of meddling in their policies (latin american policies).

Btw these translations are not word to word.
He got the boos from venezuelans and cubans int he arena, needless to say... pathetic, those iditos are the ones that let their countries be taken over so fuck off idiots...
