When it comes to answering questions from the people, GOP nominee Donald Trump is an expert at spin. He mastered the moment once again during his Reddit “ask me anything” chat during the Democratic National Convention. The “ask me anything” was actually more like “ask me what I choose for you to ask me,” because the questions were all moderated in a perfectly controlled, Trump-friendly environment. If a Reddit poster got out of line, Reddit banned the account.
When it comes to media bias, Trump names it one of his biggest concerns along with “the total dishonesty of the press. I think new media is a great way to get out the truth,” he said about his lack of a filter on Twitter. He attacked Hillary Clinton for not doing press conferences, claiming that if she does she’ll be barraged by questions about the email scandal. Unsurprisingly, he used “crooked Hillary” many times. Trump also believes that voter fraud is rampant. “Authorities must be vigilant from keeping those from voting that are not authorized to do so,” he said.
When one Redditor asked about the role NASA can play in making American great again, Trump admitted he’s always liked NASA, saying, “Honestly I think NASA is wonderful! America has always led the world in space exploration.” He didn’t say whether he would restore cuts over the years, he didn’t clarify if he supported Newt Gingrich’s moon colony, in fact, he didn’t say anything.
During the Republican National Convention, astronaut Eileen Collins delivered a speech about being a woman in a predominantly male field. Republicans have sliced and diced when it comes to NASA funding, so it is unclear why Collins was at the RNC. She also refused to endorse the party’s nominee at the end of her speech. It was written in the transcript given to the media, “We need leadership that will make America first again. That leader is Donald Trump.” But when it came time to say the last sentence, she didn’t say it. No one knows how many many NASA scientists or astronauts stand with Donald Trump, and despite this AMA, it’s still unclear if he stands with them.
