State Department Spokesman John Kirby condemns Russia for security officer “attack” on US diplomat.

A Russian Security Officer tackled an unidentified man who tried to enter the US embassy at night without stopping at the security office and presenting ID as is protocol.

Washington maintains the embassy employee stopped and present proof of identification as per protocol, but was unjustifiably attacked and beaten by a Russian security officer.

State Department Spokesman John Kirby however contradicts that version and states in a press conference:

“On the 6th of June, an accredited U.S. diplomat, who identified himself in accordance with embassy protocols, entering the American embassy compound was attacked by a Russian policeman. The action was unprovoked and it endangered the safety of our employee. The Russian claim the policeman was protecting the embassy from an unidentified individual is simply untrue.”

You can view the Kirby press conference at the State Department website. (The relevant portions begins around 35:50): http://video.state.gov/en/video/5028128022001

Russia has released security video footage of the incident. The video confirms that Kirby is lying.

A man gets out of a taxi at night. Despite it being June, the man is wearing a knit cap pulled down to eye level, and jacket which would hinder identification of him by the cab driver or a security officer.

You can see he does not stop at the security office to present identification as is protocol, as Kirby states. Instead he attempts to whisk right by security and enter the building.

The security officer tackles immediately tackles the unidentified man attempting to enter the embassy.

It turns out the man is Daniel van Dyken. He was appointed to a low level position to the embassy’s political department. He is also happens to be a career CIA officer.

In response Washington as expelled two Russia diplomats from the US.
