North Carolina Rep. Renee Ellmers is the first Republican incumbent to lose a primary this year, the victim of heavy conservative spending against her and a new congressional map.

Presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump made a late endorsement for Ellmers over the weekend and recorded a robocall to try to save her, but it was too late to make much difference. Instead, Ellmers placed a distant second behind Rep. George Holding and only narrowly edged ahead of a third challenger, physician Greg Brannon.

First establishment candidate to go down this election cycle. Hope this is a sign for better things in the future.

Isn't Greg Brannon a liberty guy?

It is not. The guy who beat her was already Congressman for much of the district. Holding and Ellmers districts were shuffled around and they ended up running against each other. The liberty candidate, Greg Brannon lost.

He came within 200 votes of Elmers, which is a pretty respectable showing for a guy who just threw his hat in the ring on a lark 2 months ago. Greg is getting a lot better as a candidate, he just needs to find the right race to run.
