CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. -Montgomery County Republicans will have to look for a new party chairman.
John Pickerill stepped down from his position Thursday to join the Libertarian Party.
"You have conservatives like myself saying, 'I don't see the Republican Party representing me anymore'," he told a small news conference of some 15 people Thursday.

Pickerill was elected as the county’s Republican chairman three years ago, but now says the Republican party no longer represents conservative values. He was unhappy with the results from the most recent primary election and said other Republicans did not share his values of upholding individual liberties, the free market and property rights

.“It’s clear by the comments they have made and the articles they have written in the past that they intend to undo those gains that we have made,” said Pickerill. “And I feel that they are going to use the party as a mere political tool to advance some political gains.”

Pickerill said he plans to run for state representative in District 41 as a Libertarian candidate this November.
