U.S. Judge’s Striking Move in Felony Drug Case: Probation, Not Prison (http://www.nytimes.com/2016/05/26/nyregion/in-a-striking-move-brooklyn-judge-orders-probation-over-prison-in-felony-drug-case.html).

A federal judge in Brooklyn, in an extraordinary opinion issued on Wednesday that calls for courts to pay closer attention to how felony convictions affect people’s lives, sentenced a woman in a drug case to probation rather than prison, saying the collateral consequences she would face as a felon were punishment enough.

The judge noted that there were nearly 50,000 federal and state statutes and regulations that imposed penalties on felons.

From another article:

Brooklyn jurist Frederic Block, 81, has more than three decades on the bench, a massive 456-page memoir under his belt, and declares, “I’m at the DGS stage of life: Don’t give a s–t.”

Federal judge rules violent felon was illegally searched (http://nypost.com/2015/12/04/federal-judge-rules-violent-felon-was-illegally-searched/).

“The unwarranted stop and search of Mr. Williams was not justified by any suspicion that he was engaged in criminal activity,” Michael Schneider wrote. “Therefore, the firearm and ammunition taken from him that morning must be suppressed.”

Judge Block agreed with his position and dumped the gun evidence.

With the evidence tossed, the feds will now likely have to drop the gun charge against Williams.

I'm a little confused about the Nesbeth case. He didnt send her to jail. Did he give her a felony conviction or just criticize it?

I'm all about his gun ruling.

IMHO, theres no such thing as an "illegal" firearm. I'm sorry but having a firearm on your person is not a crime, at-least it wont be if I'm on the jury.
