if not, why are they asking about it?

Among voters who think the USA needs a military draft, McCain’s support has doubled since October. Among voters age 50 to 64, 9 points now separates 1st place from 5th place.

Yeah, a draft is the surest way to not get elected, so by all means, press for that draft John.

I've been hearing a lot of draft talk around here... is something going on that the establishment is really pushing for a draft or at least putting it in question? Anyone have a news article to share with me or something?

Time magazine has pushed for it, and most of the leading Dems have endorsed it.

but McCain is up to something if he is seeing how it will effect him in the polls.

John McCain is Delusional!

Another FLIP FLOPPER on almost every issue!

he has been focusing on NH quite a bit and he has a very AGGRESIVE/ROBUST Campaign Staff... which I wish, RP and our Staff would be much BOLDER to the Public.

The "MTV/MySpace Campaign 2008 Dialog with John McCain" was an excellent forum and propelled McCain's following and rankings.

Two anti-war schools of thought on the draft, I suppose (besides the obvious pro-war one.)

One is that making it affect more people will result in more political pressure to end the war.

The other is that government should not have a draft because that is a check on government power - if they are involved in nation-building, empire building, etc.... then they will not have the volunteers to wage it. This point is not mentioned nearly enough, but what makes it less relevant is that we do NOT have a "volunteer" military, we have a mercenary military. They are paid with money coming from people by force (taxes.) They will always find enough people with the added enticement of money.
