and can we find a Liberty candidate to run against war monger Duncan Hunter?

Rand is in the senate to block things like this as Mike Gravel did in the 70s. Hilary wants national slavery, it was on the DLC website; John Kerry proposed it again last week.

now is the time to make this an issue

That would be amazing - nothing compares standing for rights like blocking mandatory draft for anyone.

Such a bill would probably come up through the Armed Services Committee. Rand is not on that committee. The Committee Chairman could refuse to bring the legislation to the floor for a vote. His only option would be to try to filibuster if there is enough support that he could not be voted to end it.

(While he did introduce it, Duncan Hunter was actually opposed to the idea- he just wanted discussion of the issue).

A Republican congressman is seeking to strike language requiring women to register for the draft from a defense policy bill.

Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Texas), chairman of the House Rules Committee, on Monday filed an amendment striking the language to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

“I have the utmost respect and deepest appreciation for the young women who bravely volunteer to serve our country, but I am adamantly opposed to expanding the draft and coercing America’s daughters to fight on the front lines,” Sessions said in a written statement to The Hill.

Language requiring women to register for the draft was added to the bill in a surprise move last month during the House Armed Services Committee’s markup.

Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.) offered the amendment to make a point about the ramifications of opening combat jobs to women. But six Republicans joined with all but one of the committee’s Democrats in voting for it, leading to its surprise 32-30 passage and inclusion in the larger bill.

Congress has been debating what do to about the draft — which hasn’t been enacted since the Vietnam War — since Defense Secretary Ash Carter announced late last year that all combat jobs would be open to women.

In 1981, the Supreme Court ruled women did not have to register, since combat jobs were closed to them.

Some lawmakers and defense leaders have said Carter’s decision means women should now have to register for the draft.

Other lawmakers want to continue barring women from registering, while still others want the draft to be abolished altogether.

The NDAA is expected to come to the House floor next week.

It is presently an amendment included in the National Defense Authorization Act which is a giant bill to fund the military.

The first war that Women would be drafted into would be against their fellow Americans on U.S. soil. Think about it.

We don't have a draft. Our military is staffed by those who voluntarily chose to be there.

Israel and many other countries require military service for all immediately after high school graduation. They have done this for decades. I once met two little old ladies who were in a tank unit back in the 40s or early 50s.

If we don't have a draft, then please explain what document I was coerced into signing at age 18??? Or is that your concept of voluntarism?

I think she meant that we currently do not have right not but even that is false since the Carter administration reinstated it.

You'll get it with either Clinton or trump. trump's political contributions have been largely to politicians who support the draft like Rangel and McCain.

John McCain Slips in Provision to Draft Women in Defense Bill
https://www.conservativereview.com/commentary/2016/05/john-mccain-slips-in-provisions-to-draft-women-in-defense-bill

UPDATE: I’m told that Sen. Mike Lee put forth an amendment to strike out the provision including women in the draft. The amendment was defeated 7-19. Every Democrat on the committee, along with GOP Sens. McCain, Ayotte, Fischer, Ernst, Tillis, Sullivan, and Graham voted to include women in Selective Service. Sens. Inhofe, Sessions, Wicker, Cotton, Rounds, and Cruz voted with Lee to strike out this pernicious provision.
....
Another disturbing provision in this bill establishes an independent National Commission on Military, National, and Public Service. The commission is tasked with, among other things, to “consider how to foster a sense of service and civic responsibility among the nation’s youth, improve military recruiting, and increase the pool of qualified applicants for military service and their propensity to serve.” While this provision sounds innocuous, some conservatives might be concerned that given McCain’s long record of support for Americorps and other public service programs, he will use this program to compel young adults (now including women) into some sort of public service.
...
Update: Sens. Mike Lee and Deb Fischer also voted against final passage. Sen. Lee called this provision “misguided and ill-advised” in a statement he released tonight. He also opposed the bill because it continues the program funding the Syrian rebels. “The bill authorizes the continuation of the Syria Train and Equip program, which was suspended last year after expending hundreds of millions of dollars in taxpayer money to train only four or five fighters and finance the purchase of weapons that were ultimately seized by Al Nusra, the Syrian Al Qaeda affiliate,” wrote Lee. “I firmly believe that the American counter-ISIS strategy must be reconsidered from the top-down and that we should not fund failing programs.”
