With Jeb Bush out of the race, Mel Sembler has another 2016 focus: Defeating Florida’s medical marijuana ballot initiative.

Sembler tells The Buzz he and his wife, Betty, plan to raise at least $10 million, exceeding their successful 2014 effort that took in $7.5 million.

“We’re trying to save lives and people’s brains,” the Drug Free America founder said. “It’s not a medicine.”

Sembler has also been asked by the governors in Arizona and Massachusetts to help defeat efforts in those states.

ANTI-MEDICAL MARIJUANA CAMPAIGN PREPARES TO RAISE MONEY

By Scott Powers
April 22, 2016

The group that opposed and defeated the 2014 proposed medical marijuana constitutional amendment is preparing to raise money to try the same for this year’s initiative.

The Drug-Free Florida Committee, a political action committee associated with St. Petersburg Republican financier and business executive Mel Sembler, will begin raising money shortly with hopes to do battle again with Orlando trial lawyer John Morgan‘s United For Care.

Sembler told the Tampa Bay Times that he was shooting for $10 million this year, which would be more than the $7 million-plus the group raised in its successful 2014 campaign, which sent United For Care’s medical marijuana amendment to defeat at the polls.

...

A key to the opposition campaign’s success in raising money may hinge on the interest of Las Vegas casino magnate and political financier Sheldon Adelson. He is a friend of Sembler’s who donated $5.5 million in 2014. So far Adelson has been quiet. But Evers said he’s a longtime supporter of Sembler’s anti-drug efforts and has consistently said he will continue to support them, though he has not made any specific commitments.

United For Care’s political action committee People United For Medical Marijuana has its own significant contributor, Morgan, who has pledged to match contributions to his campaign. So far the campaign has raised about $3.6 million for this try, but it spent more than $3 million collecting signatures to get the measure on the ballot.

Evil disgusting people don't want you to grow your own medicine for cheap. They want to see you in debt.

Last time it was Sheldon Adelson funding the knuckle-draggers.

Adelson also recently bought the largest newspaper in Nevada, which has a legalization initiative on the ballot this November. And he's already trying to push the editorial board his way on that.

Anti-Marijuana Adelson Pressures Newspaper to Reconsider Legalization Stance

By Tom Angell
JANUARY 12, 2016

Just as marijuana law reform advocates feared, new Las Vegas Review-Journal owner Sheldon Adelson is exerting pressure on the paper’s editorial board to reverse its long-held pro-legalization stance.

According to journalists present at a Monday meeting with publisher Jason Taylor and interim editor Glenn Cook, Adelson and his wife Miriam are asking editorial board members to visit a drug treatment center and reconsider the publication’s support for ending prohibition ahead of a November vote on legalizing marijuana in Nevada.

Cook and fellow editorial writers Patrick Everson and Steve Sebelius are reportedly set to visit a drug treatment facility at Adleson’s suggestion sometime next week.

It's all about who makes the money, one group profits from illegal weed another from legal weed...

Even discussing the consumer is superfluous...

“We’re trying to save lives and people’s brains,” the Drug Free America founder said. “It’s not a medicine.”

Plural eh? Save eh? Save as in maintain?

Well, the first thing you want to do with a unique vehicle to keep it running in tip top shape, is to develop a "one size fits all" maintenance routine for it.
Derp.

The torque specs on your specific car, are not the torque specs on my car, therefore, I will keep your car running well by not allowing you to use your individual torque specs. Derp. What's your problem with that? Derp.
