Afghan Taliban Claims: John Kerry Target of Rocket Attacks in Kabul

11 Apr 2016 Washington, D.C.
The Afghan Taliban reportedly claims U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry was the target of the rocket strikes that struck Afghanistan’s capital Kabul on Saturday night.

CNN (http://www.cnn.com/2016/04/10/politics/kerry-afghanistan-taliban-rockets/index.html) reports that the terrorist group made the allegation in a statement.
“The attacks in Kabul on Saturday night came within an hour after Kerry had departed Afghanistan, following a visit aimed at defusing a political crisis in the unity government he helped build,” notes the report.

KABUL—Twelve people, including three children, were killed when Afghan and U.S. forces conducted a raid on the house of a suspected al Qaeda member in east Afghanistan, according to a confidential report and people familiar with the matter.

The Wall Street Journal reviewed an Afghan interior ministry incident report that detailed the early Friday operation in eastern Logar province. The report said the operation was conducted by coalition forces, a term used to refer to the U.S. force that maintains a presence in the country and works with the Afghan army. It didn’t detail whether Afghan forces were present.

Afghanistan’s national flag flew at half-staff in government offices and special prayers were offered in mosques across the country Friday to pay respects to the victims of this week’s deadly Taliban attack in Kabul.
The bomb-and-gun assault of a well-guarded building linked to the intelligence agency, the National Directorate for Security, killed nearly 70 people, mostly security forces.
Another 347 people, many of them civilians, were wounded in the deadliest Taliban strike in the capital since the Islamist group was ousted from power in 2001.
