Irritated by testimony from the author of 'A Moral Case for Fossil Fuels', Alex Epstein, democrat Senator Barbara Boxer asks, "Are you a scientist?" Epstein responds, "No. Philosopher... To teach you how to think more clearly." Boxer: "Well, you don't have to teach me how to think more clearly... I'm telling you that all you have to know is you're a philosopher and not a scientist, and I don't appreciate getting lectured by a philosopher about science."

Boxer then turns to Father Robert Sirico, "You're saying that when the planet is facing all these problems, it's not a moral issue." Father Sirico replies, "I never said that. Where did I say that? Could you give me that quotation, Senator?" Unable to provide the quote, Boxer says, "I think you need to have a talk with Reverend Nelson," the Presbyterian USA minister sitting two chairs down. Father Sirico gets in the last word, "Who is by the way, not a scientist."

She asked them if they disagree with the pope, who is also...not a scientist.

And who ever really enjoys being lectured by a dingbat CONgresscritter like Boxer, from the PRC, on anything?

Why are our nation's non-scientist representatives legislating science in the first place? ...And as to the Pope, why don't we ask what Galileo about his thoughts on listening to the Pope's scientific opinions?

She is obnoxious and suffers from pride as well as the other evil that grips her .

Alex Epstein's book and podcast are good.

Have a watch of his full comments and Q&A and see if you think you might be interested in checking out his book or podcast.

48 minute podcast, how annoying... I miss the days of text internet that can be quickly read. He is a well funded global warming denier.

For all the people that consider global warming a conspiracy, what about the equally conspiratorial idea that big oil is funded an attack on science to keep selling their product for high profits?

Because big business/oil owns the establishment, and the establishment is pushing global warming for economic controls - this will allow them to create energy policies that ensure their continued monopoly.

Maybe if you watched some smart people on podcasts once in a while, you could get a well reasoned, condensed version of information from those who have spent years reading material on the topic.

Boxer's narcissism brought about this brilliant parody:

It sort of sounds like Walsh says, "Yes, sir" at the end of that.

<rolls eyes> Reading is the better option. Video and podcasts are for second class fanboys.

seriously. is he really arguing that podcasts are a more condensed and better option for gaining knowledge than freaking reading? podcasts and videos have just helped dumb down the internet.

Yes, because you can have experts on who have spent their entire life studying something instead of starting from scratch yourself and actually have somebody else to call them on their bullshit or add in thoughts from a different perspective and have a discussion instead of just giving them a podium to spout off.

It makes for a fantastic dynamic, but I can see how less intelligent people would cling on to books and reading without really thinking too much about it, mimicking what they think smart people do. Clearly both must exist for the dynamic to work, but for a person to get into a subject they haven't spent more than 5 or 10 years studying themselves, it can be extraordinarily useful.
