It may seem sometimes that running for president is all about corporate jets, Secret Service protection and a fawning entourage. Not for Ron Paul, the libertarian anti-war outsider generating some fervent support and impressive fundraising totals. There he was at Washington Reagan airport last night lugging his bags onto the same Continental Airlines flight to Houston as me. On his own. Not an aide in sight.

Once on the plane, no one seemed to notice who he was and he chatted amiably (he was sitting behind me) to the man next to him about the weather and the quality of the red wine. As we got off in Houston – he was there to spend 24 hours at home – I asked him about Mitt Romney’s address about his faith at College Station, Texas, which was where I was headed. He seemed only faintly aware it was happening. “Useless politicking!” he exclaimed. “Mormons against radical Baptists. Bah!”

I heard that his wife told someone that he has enough miles to upgrade to first anytime he desires without paying extra.

He definitely deserves to have a security detail following him around. Then again, if you don't have a crooked past, nobody cares about you enough. Kind of curious how Giuliani has a 24/7 security team around him at all times.

Great story, great pic. This does not surprise me at all. Ron Paul is truly a man of integrity.

I am starting to wonder why on earth he has none. I know a lot of senators have security details, it seems strange that a congressman running for President wouldn't have one. I wonder if he declined.

Giuliani is a bad person and is hated and he knows it, and so he has security around 24/7. If I saw Giuliani alone all by himself....I would need the hand of God to restrain me.

Couldn't the journalist have been in first class?

I agree, he must have a ton of FF miles, but it does seem that he uses many different airlines (I've heard of him taking US Airways, American, and this is Continental), and airlines will only honor their own FF miles, not another company's. He may have platinum status on one or two airlines and not another.

When I saw him at the Defending the Dream Summit, he did have a bodyguard-like person accompanying him. I hope he does have a bodyguard.

Pretty sure the writer was first class as well.

He was talking to the guy next to him about the "quality of the red wine." Key word, the. Sitting next to some stranger, he would have been talking about the quality of a red wine, or various red wines. "The red wine" indicates that a red wine was served during the flight, and they were discussing its quality.

Details.

There were seveal of us 'regular' folks with carry permits that tried to keep an eye on things when he was here in Tennessee in October. He also had an armed escort of (I think) off-duty police officers (who are now fantatic supporters)!!

It was me who asked Mrs. Paul about first class.

I was able to talk with her for several minutes at the Morgan State (Baltimore) Debate. I mentioned that with all the money we are sending to the campaign we expect nothing less than for him to be traveling first class, and getting comfortable accommodations. Fresh and Relaxed is what we need Dr. Paul to feel. I do have to say that usually he does look in great shape, better then I at 27 most days.

Mrs. Paul did mention that they usually upgrade him because of all his flying for so many years back and forth to Washington. This campaign is just icing on that cake.

She has a very warm personality. I am sure she makes sure her husband is very comfortable.

To be honest, if they want to take him down then they will take him down--security detail or not. Correct?

The only people that guards will protect from is lunatics acting for themselves; he's just a little more likely to have that happen to him than is any normal person.

Unfortunately, you're quite right.

I'd like to think they know better than to make a Martyr and a cause and guarantee their own demise. If they are smart they'll fight him from within the system they built and feel so secure with. If we are lucky, they'll grotesquely underestimate both Ron and the voters in general, in this election and the next.

He doesn't need security detail on the plane. I imagine security would bring him through until he's checked through the airport's security, and then a different security detail would pick him up on the other side.

Neocons wouldn't want to make a martyr out of Ron Paul at this point anyway. Somebody would step up to fill his place. I don't think there's anything to worry about. Don't get me wrong, Ron Paul is my hero, and I think he is the best leader for this revolution, but the message, movement, and revolution really are more important. Ron Paul knows that as well, and says so himself.

I think it's really important to have a VP that is just as trustworthy and would do the same things that Ron Paul will do. That will take care of any thoughts of a JFK repeat.

Those that follow know... for no man walks alone. I truly believe that Ron Paul is a man of good fruits and that when it is his time, there is NOTHING anyone one of us can do about it. Faith, trust, hope, and love.. these acts are what make your time worth it. Nothing more in my opinion. Dr. Paul is a healer, a faithful man of hope.

His protection is NOT thought of after the fact. (think about that for a second)

This man is walking a narrow path. God bless Ron Paul and his giving family. :)

God(Good) is Love. It's pure and truthful. God wants everyone to love one another.
Satin(Evil) is Hate. It's unpure and false. Satin wants everyone to hate one another.
