Just curious. There are some people here more familiar with his tastes than I. He endorsed Bush I as a "he ain't Clinton" move, so I'm not sure. :toady:

Good question. Trump is a ripoff of Buchanan and the Paleo Con movement, so I think he would have very mixed feelings on him, just as we all do to some extent. It is undeniable that there are positive attributes to him...even if he is completely clueless all to why....but in my opinion, the damage done by him to liberty will outweigh the damage done through him to tyranny. I think Rothburd would encourage running all good 3rd party and trying to use this election to break onto the national stage as all 3rd option.

I imagine he would have backed Rand when he was in the race, but one guess is as good as any I suppose.

I would not be surprised to see Rothbard endorse Trump, but its hard to know for sure. His heirs at LRC seem to like Trump.

Trump. Lew said Murray would love Trump, IIRC. (Hasten the collapse?)

Rothbard Would Have Loved Trump -- Read Murray’s 'In Defense of Demagogues'.

Murray was all about making the state react in a defensive manner. He would have liked Trump for this reason alone.

Either Cruz or none of the above.

What part of Murray's output makes you think so?

He seemed to waver about political involvement and endorsements. So there's no telling if he would endorse anyone. But Cruz is the most likely to cut spending, move federal powers back to states, and support auditing the Fed. So it he were going to endorse anyone it would be he.

Trump is roughly what Rothbard had in mind when he wrote his Right-Wing Populism article. Rothbard approved candidates like David Duke and Pat Buchanan support Trump. Rothbard worshippers Lew Rockwell and Justin Raimondo support Trump. Older Rothbard would have supported Trump.

Younger Rothbard would be harder to pin down. I would guess he would support no one, but would find a convoluted way to praise Bernie Sanders and nudge support his direction without actually endorsing Sanders.

David Duke was a Rothbard approved candidate?

Lew Rockwell and Justin Raimondo do not support Trump. They have had positive things to say about some things that his candidacy have done, but neither have endorsed him, nor would endorse him.

With Duke and Buchanan, I'm sure Trump's anti-immigration and protectionist rhetoric (despite most likely being disingenuous and purely symbolic) are the main reasons. And Rothbard would rightly see those as reasons to oppose Trump, not support him.

You'll notice that most of the people here who do support him are themselves anti-immigration protectionists.

They go way beyond endorsement. You don't get to praise someone everyday and attack anyone who doesn't praise Trump and then say you don't support him. That isn't how it works. Saying they don't support Trump is their way of never having to take responsibility. I am against giving people that leeway. They are the contrarian kids in the back of the classroom with purple hair and black lipstick. Rothbard doesn't get an out on Duke. This is downright giddiness toward Duke. http://archive.lewrockwell.com/rothbard/ir/Ch5.html

Rothbard is dead, and has been for 20 years. No one can speak for him. People can attempt to guess, but mostly that will represent their own biases.

I disagree. In all of those cases they come far shy of endorsement.

I don't support giving them passes either. But I'm not going to make it into something it isn't.

And if you look at the things Rothbard likes about right wing populism, not a one of them applies to Trump, except maybe (MAYBE) the America-first bit, and even that wouldn't include the most important part of America-first-ism, which is an aversion to foreign military intervention.

I was curious to see if maybe I was wrong so I just pulled up Justin Raimondo's Twitterfeed. LOL. This just from the last couple of hours and doesn't include his Pro-Trump retweets. There are like 5000 of these. The guy is nuts for Trump. If this isn't support, of course it is support. I could post these Tweets all day there are so many. It is pro-Trump derangement. It is cult worship.
