Maryland Law Would Make It A Crime To Own A BB Gun (http://www.grandviewoutdoors.com/guns/gun-rights/maryland-law-would-ban-bb-guns-and-toy-replicas/)
A bill proposed by a Baltimore Democrat would ban the possession and use of most air rifles and pistols and many toys or paintball guns.

Maryland lawmakers have proposed a series of new gun control laws they say would strengthen a sweeping set of regulations enacted in 2013, including one that would all but ban the possession of air rifles and many toy guns.

The new bill proposed by Baltimore delegate Jill Carter would bar the sale, possession or use of so-called “imitation firearms” and would impose a $1,000 fine and up to a year in prison for any violation. The bill defines imitation firearms as “a toy, a device or an object that substantially duplicates or can reasonably be perceived to be a firearm or a handgun.”

There is no so-called “grandfather clause,” so according to the legislation, anyone who owns a toy or an air gun that’s defined as an “imitation” would be violating the law.

Carter’s bill, dubbed HB0879 would require any toy or air gun be made in a bright color, have a closed barrel or have an obvious stamp with the manufacturer’s name or trademark that can be “readily identified” on its exterior. The bill exempts “non-firing collector replicas of an antique firearm.”

The new bill is part of a package of anti-gun laws being considered in Maryland’s next legislative session, including one that would make muzzleloaders subject to background checks and another that would ban any possession of firearms or knives on college campuses in the state. Democratic lawmakers see these bills as closing “loopholes” left after Maryland’s sweeping 2013 gun ban, which barred most AR-15 and AK-47 style rifles and required licensing for the possession of a handgun.

“This legislation is poorly drafted and short-sighted,” the NRA said of Carter’s imitation firearm ban. “It will ban the BB and pellet guns that many parents use to teach their children safe gun handling and marksmanship.”

A companion bill under consideration in the Maryland Senate would ban the sale or transfer of imitation firearms, but not the possession or use of them. The state legislative session begins March 9.

I'm guessing the leftover loophole was the second amendment.

Well considering nobody got prosecuted for Tamir Rice getting gunned down for holding what the 911 operator was told was probably a BB gun maybe this isn't a bad law? Okay, I'm being sarcastic (a little), but if the police state can gun down kids that it has been told have a BB gun, then maybe the police state should be able to say those kids can't have a BB gun.

On a serious note, why wasn't that 911 operator brought up on reckless homicide charges? And personally I think the busybody who called 911 should be brought up on charges. And the cop should have at least been fired.

Shoulda, coulda, woulda....
....all mean "didn't".

You rack up enough "didn't"s and it starts to look like the system isn't actually broken, but working as intended.

It's common knowledge that toys that mimic weapons and low power weapons like bb guns are gateway weapons that lead people to use the real version later, and view them as less harmful because of the conditioning instilled by the powerful toy industry lobby in collusion with the major firearm manufacturers. There is a nearly a 1:1 relationship between those that used supposed "toy" weapons and those that later used real weapons in pursuit of a crime.

It's been far to long that we have ignored the brainwashing mechanism the toy manufacturers enable via "toys", they sell "guns", they glorify violence with their military toys, and their robot toys capable of mass destruction. Oh but they are fake, they are just toys cries the radical right. Every mass shooter has "played" with a "toy" weapon. Every mass shooter has played out their plans to kill in their heads before doing it in reality. Every Killer with a gun first pretended to kill as a child with a "toy". A toy that enriches the massive toy empires, and trivializes death!

In the end, every gun related death started with a toy, and play killing.

Maybe they should pass a law prohibiting white cops to overreact around black kids carrying BB guns.

Yet one more very good reason to stay the hell out of Maryland.

Only Palestinians want to own BB guns anyway.

Guess they would rather people switch over to using .177 or 22 cal firearms over the use of compressed air as a propellant. Kinda makes me wonder if those making up the law have an interest in seeing those particular firearms become more popular.
