Looks this thing is popping up its ugly head again here in the near future.....

From Campaign for Liberty:

Dear Matt,

Will greedy governors get to expand their taxing authority beyond their state lines (taxation without representation, anyone?) because of a dirty deal cut by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell?

And will the special interests representing big box retailers posing as “Main Street” establish a competitive advantage over Mom and Pop e-tailers?

Will Congress make tax competition between the states become a race to the top?

And will interstate commerce change forever -- leaving you, the consumer, with less money in your pocket at the end of the day?

I need your help today to make the answer to those questions a resounding “NO!”

The bottom line is, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has struck a dirty deal with Senator Dick Durbin to hold a vote on the National Internet Tax Mandate this year.

And, based on his past history, we cannot count on House Speaker Paul Ryan to stand firm and not cave into the special interests pushing this latest tax hike scheme.

I’ve provided more details below, but if you already understand this issue, please sign your “No Internet Tax” Emergency Fax Petitions to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker Paul Ryan (http://paracom.paramountcommunication.com/ct/33464855:WBDCl6CLN:m:1:288046305:52BF7FEF78DACB4D6 74E67B2101D9918:r) demanding they oppose any attempt to pass any Internet sales tax legislation.

Now here are the details...

As you may know, a bipartisan group of Big Government senators (Durbin, Enzi, and Alexander, to name a few) have been trying to block permanent extension of the Internet Access Tax Moratorium.

(First passed in the late-90s, it prevents you and me from being taxed when we go online.)

These statists were hoping to hold that popular bill hostage unless the Senate leadership allowed them to attach unconstitutional Internet sales tax legislation—more accurately named the National Internet Tax Mandate—to any bill permanently extending the moratorium.

(The National Internet Tax Mandate seeks to overturn the 1992Quill v. North Dakota Supreme Court decision, which declared a business can only be forced to collect sales taxes for sales occurring in the state they are physically located in.)

Well, late yesterday afternoon, Senator Durbin announced he was dropping his effort to block the permanent extension of the Internet Access Tax Moratorium.

Not just because he saw the whip count going against him on this scheme, and losing in this last ditch effort would’ve been a major failure for the statists...

But because Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell promised him a standalone vote on the National Internet Tax Mandate later this year.

Senator McConnell apparently thinks he can quietly schedule a vote on Internet sales taxes when the people are distracted by the presidential election.

And that he can deflect our anger away from him by voting “No” on the bill after using his position as Senate Majority Leader to make passage of the bill possible!

That’s why it’s vital you sign your “No Internet Tax” Emergency Fax Petitions (http://paracom.paramountcommunication.com/ct/33464856:WBDCl6CLN:m:1:288046305:52BF7FEF78DACB4D6 74E67B2101D9918:r) to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker Paul Ryan demanding they do all they can to stop any version of the National Internet Tax Mandate from passing this year.

You and I must let both McConnell and Ryan know that pro-liberty Americans are watching and expect them to do all they can to block the National Internet Tax Mandate.

You see, in his statement bragging about his deal with McConnell, Senator Durbin rallied behind Rep. Jason Chaffetz’s version of the National Internet Tax Mandate, H.R. 2775.

Durbin no doubt intends to help Chaffetz convince House Speaker Paul Ryan to move H.R. 2775 through the House.

One would think Speaker Ryan would know better than to grant a vote on Chaffetz’s, or any other Internet sales tax bill!

But Speaker Ryan is no stranger to passing bills with majority support from Big Government Democrats and Republicans.

Even recently we’ve seen with Ryan’s big spending deals and his behind-the-scenes effort to sneak the anti-civil liberties CISA into law...

...These actions show he cannot be trusted to do the right thing...

...Unless, of course, he feels the heat from you and knows if he keeps selling out to the statists and the special interests, he will suffer the fate of his predecessors...

The National Internet Tax Mandate benefits tax-hungry politicians and special interest groups. Period.

If the big spenders and special interests are successful, you and I will be forced to pay out-of-state sales taxes on every good we buy online.

You and I will be forced to pay tax rates set by politicians and bureaucrats we have no influence with or control over... Talk about taxation without representation! The Founders would be furious!

The National Internet Tax Mandate will also impose crippling new regulations on small e-tailers and could stifle the next Amazon, Overstock, or eBay -- before it even begins.

The good news is, over the last three years, the special interests have repeatedly thought they were close to passing this bill, only to be frustrated by the efforts of Campaign for Liberty members.

With many politicians preparing to face the voters this fall, I’m confident we can continue to defeat any attempt to impose new taxes and regulations on online commerce.

But only if you and I can keep the heat on Congress.
