A dozen drone protesters were arrested at Hancock Field National Air Base Thursday morning.

The 12, who held 30 life-cutouts of activist Jerry Berrigan, blockaded the main entrance of the air base. DeWitt police, Onondaga County sheriff's deputies and New York state police responded to the protest. Police confirmed the arrests.

Jerry Berrigan, who died in July at age 95, protested at the airfield nearly every two weeks. He was a Syracuse educator who - like his brothers - took part in many acts of high-profile political activism and protest in the area. Two of his brothers were Daniel and Philip Berrigan, two priests who made headlines nationally for participating in various protests.

Those arrested at the base on Thursday were charged with trespass, disorderly conduct and obstructing governmental administration, are, according to Onondaga County Sheriff's Department. They are:

Ray McGovern, 76, of Virginia, a former CIA analyst
Pete Perry, 46, of Syracuse
Ed Kinane, 71, of Syracuse
Beth Adams, 69, of Massachusetts
Bev Rice, 78, of the New York City area
Bill Ofenloch,66, of the New York City area
Brian Hynes,50, of the New York City area
Charley Bowman,69, of Buffalo
James Ricks, 66, of Ithaca,
Joan Pleune, 76, of Brooklyn
Joan Wages,54, of Virginia
Steve Baggarly, 50, of Virginia.

Beverly Rice and Joan Pleune were also charged with second-degree criminal contempt , for violating an order of protection that had been previously issued by a judge, police said.

The activists say they brought Berrigan's image to the gates to remember "that this is where he would be, speaking out and putting his body on the line to say a clear "NO" to killing."

A group of protesters holding signs watched as the 12 at the airfield's main entrance were arrested.

The linked newspaper seems to be the main newspaper that reported this in Syracuse and it's the newspaper that those who are in this group are sharing. Unfortunately most people commenting in the comments section of this article are writing very negative comments. (Same old stuff: they call them traitors who hate the country, blah blah). Please consider adding positive comments. I'm sure it would be helpful after all the trouble they went through to prepare for this protest, in addition to engaging in civil disobedience and being arrested, to know that at least some people appreciate their action. (http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/2016/01/12_drone_protesters_arrested_at_hancock_airfield.h tml) When the majority disparage those with the courage to speak out against the endless killing fields overseas, it really does stop many others from having the courage to speak up.
