Wow. I can't imagine any of the other candidates doing that. That's amazing.

There's a Digg link at the bottom - digg the press release! Let's show everyone Dr. Paul's true character.

Nice. I'm afraid some might see it as Paul endorsing Romney though.

Yes, Let's not reject Romney for his mormonism. Let's reject him for his incompetence.

"I believe in an America where the seperation of church and state is absolute" -JFK, 1960
"The notion of separation of church and state has been taken by some beyond its original meaning," -Mitt Romney, 2007

I think Lewis Black says it best:
"If this is evolution in terms of leadership, I think in 12 years we will be voting for plants"

Honesty is honesty and right is right. People will see it as Ron Paul voicing his principles.

Pretty standard for every candidate to issue a response to just about anything newsworthy that happens. Great to see Ron Paul taking the high road on this issue, obviously I wouldn't have expected anything less

Reminds me of Nelson Mandela of South Africa. This is the hallmark of a true statesman.

Wow!

The press needs to pick this up ASAP. It looks very good when a candidate defends his enemy over a common problem. This will give RP a boost, and Mitt would probably say something nice about Ron Paul in return, which would give him a boost.

E-mail this to every press you know.

I don't see that as an endorsment at all, I see that as you people should be looking at record not at faith. Hopefully lots of people will listen to what he is saying because if they do they will quickly see who has the best record to run this country.

Mitt Romney is a two-faced scumbag. He is more of a phony than Hillary.

He was actively pro-choice in 2002 - now he is pro-life.

He spent years actively proselytizing as a youth. Now he says his faith is personal.

I can see him proselytizing in the Oval Office in a couple more years.

Mid-2009: "Today I come to tell all Americans about the life and times of Brigham Young and his 16 wives...." -Mitt Romney 2009

thats the hole point man. If people see his record they will know just what kind of person they really are. This goes for every presidential candidate and that is what RP is trying to point out.

ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA –

In light of Governor Romney’s anticipated “religion speech,”
fellow Republican candidate Ron Paul issued the following statement:

“We live in times of great uncertainty when men of faith must stand up for American values and traditions

before they are washed away in a sea of fear and relativism.

I have never been one who is particularly comfortable talking about my faith in the political arena,
and I find the pandering that typically occurs in the election season to be distasteful.

“Our nation was founded to be a place where religion is freely practiced
and differences are tolerated and respected.

I come to my faith through Jesus Christ and have accepted him as my personal savior.

At the same time,

I have worked tirelessly to defend and restore individual rights and religious freedom for all Americans.

“The recent attacks and insinuations, both direct and subtle,
that Gov. Romney may be less fit to serve as president of our United States because of his faith
fly in the face of everything America stands for.

Gov. Romney should be judged fairly, on his record and his character, not on the church he attends.”

I respect RP for being a principled leader - and this is just another shining example of the type of character we need in the white house. this thread should be a celebration of the outstanding character of RP and not a chance to make angry threads about Mitt...

I disagree with all of you. I think it was unwise to release this statement. And completely unnecessary. Other MAJOR events have happened that I was hoping RP would make a statement about...but nothing.

Now, this is what makes him comment? I am totally flabbergasted. It seemed to have served NO purpose other than to bring attention to Ron's OWN religion. And that is a turn-off for many many people.

It felt like pandering to me.

He just should have kept completely silent, unless asked.

just brings a smile to my face at every opportunity. It's so nice to see this, and believe me, these things (when they are reported to the masses) DO stand out to many Americans because it is so against the norm when dealing with modern-day politics.

Maybe Ron was just standing by him, so he wasn't out there alone.

Sometimes opening your heart like that is a lonely thing, and Ron made sure Mitt knew someone stood with him in agreement.

It was special.
