What are the roles of libertarians: canaries in the darkening states of the West? As all humanity progresses farther and farther from liberty, freedom, and private property, what are our roles? What were the roles of Russians and Chinese under hideous communist nation states? The roles of Latin Americans under murderous military states?

educators, organizers, "reserves"...

I just assumed their purpose was to complain about how awful things are on message boards such as this one

Laugh at everyone who ignored us, then clean up the mess when everyone else has destroyed themselves. Enjoy. :)

Whatever the particular involved individuals decide their role to be.

Enjoying our own freedom. Trying to get more people to experience it.

Truly enlightened libertarians know that freedom is a state of mind. Our own fear is the biggest impediment to freedom. When you learn how to conquer your fears, you will be the freest you have ever been.

I think the most likely role will be to blindly obey the officer on duty of your local FEMA camp.

It sure beats dying from testosterone poisoning in a FEMA camp.

They need to figure out why things went bad and how to prevent it from happening next time.

Well said. And in doing so, you discover that fear controls the world, and that people are easily motivated by phantoms.
Objectivism FTW.

Our role is to stand by helplessly yelling "Stop!" while everyone else repeats the tragedies of history.

It's 1000x easier when you put them on leashes

Our role is to attempt to drag people kicking and screaming back to the very principles that they swear they've been holding and upholding all along.

Which is why everyone hates us.

You either "get" the NAP, or you don't. <shrug>

You either "get" the NAP, or you don't. <shrug>

Another sixteen year old black-or-white pronouncement in a world which contains far more than fifty shades of gray.

You can get the NAP and still refuse to believe that your determination to save people from themselves is in no way aggressive. It doesn't speak well to your intelligence if you do. But the nation's universities turn out millions of just such useful totalitarian idiots every single spring.

Our role is whatever we want our role to be. We're libertarians.

There are as many different strains of libertarians as there are flavors of Kool-Aid.

There are as many different strains of libertarians as there are flavors of Kool-Aid.

And the role of enlightened libertarians is to refuse to drink the Kool-Aid. No matter how many tempting flavors they set before us.

Apparently, it hasn't worked.
