Six US troops killed in Afghanistan as Taliban gains strength

A suicide attacker rammed an explosives-laden motorcycle into a joint NATO-Afghan patrol Monday killing six American service members, in the deadliest attack on international forces in the country since August. Two additional U.S. troops and an Afghan were wounded.
The attack happened as Taliban fighters (http://america.aljazeera.com/topics/topic/organization/Taliban.html) overran a strategic district in southern Helmand province (http://america.aljazeera.com/external/2015/12/taliban-close-totakingoverhelmandafghanofficial.html), the scene of some of the deadliest fighting between the Taliban and international combat forces before foreign combat troops withdrew in 2014, adding weight to Pentagon predictions that the insurgency is gaining strength.

Looks like somebody's been working on his short game!

President Obama sunk a spectacular 40-foot chip while golfing at the Mid Pacific Country Club in Kailua, Hawaii, on Monday.

Footage from Reuters shows the Commander-in-Chief, dressed in a gray polo shirt and black shorts, carefully lining up his shot and taking a few quick practice swings just off the 18th green before expertly sending the ball rolling straight into the hole. After sinking the shot, Obama triumphantly drops his wedge and turns around to make sure his incredible play was caught on camera.

A female officer in the Air Force who was one of the first openly gay service members to marry was identified on Tuesday as among the six US troops killed by a suicide bomber near Bagram air base in Afghanistan.
Facebook postings on Tuesday by friends and family of Air Force Major Adrianna Vorderbruggen mourned her death on Monday and sent condolences to her wife Heather and son Jacob, who live near Washington, D.C.

President Bush said yesterday that he gave up golfing in 2003 "in solidarity" with the families of soldiers who were dying in Iraq (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/world/countries/iraq.html?nav=el), concluding that it was "just not worth it anymore" to play the sport in a time of war.
"I don't want some mom whose son may have recently died to see the commander in chief playing golf," Bush said in a White House interview with the Politico. I hope everyone here knows that Obama is essentially incompetent.

Take someone who's never held a real job, put him in the Presidency....vioala! Obama. He's basically a face. He says what his speechwriters tell him to say. He does what his advisors tell him to do.

Everyone around him treats him like an overgrown child who has to be handled delicately and spoken to in a calm tone of voice. Kind of like the child emperors from the middle ages. Think Joffrey from Game of Thrones. "Ok, go play golf now. That's it, just go enjoy yourself. We'll have some papers for you to sign when you get back. Don't worry, you don't have to read them. Afghanistan conflict: US casualties on special forces mission

One US service member has been killed and two wounded during a special forces mission in Afghanistan's southern Helmand province.
The forces were taking part in a counter-terrorism operation when they came under fire, officials told US media.
A medical helicopter sent to rescue casualties was then forced down.
US special forces have recently been engaged in tackling Taliban fighters in Helmand.

'Not shot down'

The incident took place near the town of Marjah on Tuesday, the officials said.
US military spokesman Brig Gen Wilson Shoffner said one service member had died as a result of wounds, adding: "We are deeply saddened by this loss... our heartfelt sympathies go out to the families and friends of those involved."
The identity of the casualties has not yet been revealed.
Some reports said the "medevac" helicopter had also come under fire.
A spokesman in Afghanistan for the US military confirmed it had landed, but said it had experienced "mechanical malfunctions".
"It was not shot down. It intentionally landed safely," he said.
Helmand has long been a stronghold of the Taliban.
