Fox news is already fear mongering over this and calling for more surveillance and people should not be upset about meta data collection. I'm sure this will be a topic of discussion in tonights debate.

Officials closed all Los Angeles Unified School District (http://www.latimes.com/topic/education/schools/l.a.-unified-school-district-ORGOV000940-topic.html) campuses Tuesday morning after receiving a "credible threat" of violence involving backpacks and packages left at campuses.Authorities said they plan a search operation of all of the LAUSD's more than 900 schools. The nation's second-largest school district has more than 700,000 students.

“I think it’s important to take this precaution based on what has happened recently and what has happened in the past,” LAUSD Superintendent Ramon Cortines (http://www.latimes.com/topic/education/schools/ramon-cortines-PEGPF000028-topic.html) said.

The move comes less than two weeks after two shooters killed 14 people in San Bernardino in what was the deadliest terrorist attack (http://www.latimes.com/topic/crime-law-justice/crime/shootings/san-bernardino-terror-attack-EVCAL00077-topic.html) on U.S. soil since Sept. 11, 2001.

The male teacher was alone and preparing for class when the assailant entered, seized a pair of scissors and a box cutter from a table of school supplies, and slashed him in the stomach and neck before fleeing, a teachers' union leader told NBC News.

Same threat was called into a bunch of school districts including LA and New York. It was said to be too absurd to be taken seriously but only LA decided it was serious enough to call for a shut down.
