View Full Version : Why is the ad price 1/4 of the cost of the blimp company?

So the blimp company is selling to Liberty Political Ads 160 hours of flight for $350,000. That amounts to $2,187.50/Hr. But they are selling ad time for $555.56/Hr ($50,000 for 90 hours).

How do these guys plan on staying in business selling stuff at 1/4 the cost to them?

i think the blimp company supports Ron Paul and is giving a discount.

Hm. The current purchases are $165,945. Which at $100 for 10.8 minutes = $9.26 per minute. So 165,945 / 9.26 = 17920 minutes = 298 hours. So they've already sold 138 more hours than the flight time for one month, if that 160 hours per month figure is correct.

If they sell $350,000 that will equate to 630 hours, or almost 4 months of flight time. Yet $350,000 only covers one month of flight time.

It looks to me like either people aren't going to actually be getting the number of minutes they purchased, or else they are already in what they call an "oversold" position.

Perhaps I am not understanding something.

Are you guys calculating that it probably will not fly at night? Or is this incorrect info I have?

I'm NOT official, but I'll speculate...

30 days * 24 hrs = 720

350,000/720 = $486

Plus you have to add in the misc. expenses (attorney, banners, etc), so $555 seems about right. If you do the math it brings the total to around $400k. That aligns with the website.

Just simple hours. Originally it was $350,000 for 160 hours of flight time.

It isn't flying 24 hours a day, so you can't charge for the down time.

The purchased time then would not be only flight time, but also cover down time. In other words, you might be sponsoring minutes when the blimp is not flying. Is that the intention? The website does not appear to say that the minutes purchased are flight time minutes.

Non flight time is not "down time". Since the Blimp will be parked at times and lighted on some nights the Ron Paul message will continue. Not all minutes will necessarily be flight minutes... but the MESSAGE will continue.

The blimp offers different venues for the Ron Paul message. Some of it will be an airborne venue... some of it parked during the day and lit by sunlight... some of it will be at night and lit by lights. Occassionally the Blimp will be in clouds and otherwise out of sight. Such is the nature of the beast. Other venues will be in the media... there are no minute charges for that time.

It would be smart to clarify that on the website. I was under the impression that the purchase was for flight time minutes.

So the minutes aren't only flight time, but storage as well.
OK. Good enough I guess.

Not all minutes are flight time... correct. But you cannot call it "storage" time when the Blimp will also be visible while on the ground and the Ron Paul message is still being presented. The blimp will also get attention when on the ground... so the message is still being presented. It is not in "storage".
