These are college organizations, so they should all be eligible (the odd wunderkind aside).

The original goat set by the campaign for this strategy was to get 10,000 students pledged to caucus.

CORRECTION: I goat this confused with the news about Students for Rand. That is a college organization. This is evidently high schoolers. My baaad.

I think this was for high school students as part of that Caucus 101 curriculum program from the Secretary of State.

But since you only have to be 18 by the general election in November 2016 in order to vote in the real Caucus in February that means the Seniors and some Juniors are eligible.

Looking at the website it looks like the students that participated actually had to put some effort in to it like they would in the real Caucus. You had to register online and then show up to the location for your county, and the whole process took hours.

Which is encouraging because it wasn't just some ballot they passed out during class. If they went through the trouble to vote for Rand here, they are likely to do it again for real.

Adults representing the Democratic and Republican Parties in each county will be on-site for the Youth Caucus events November 19. The students will debate issues and develop “planks” for their party platforms in addition to voting for their favorite presidential candidate. The events are fashioned after the “Mock Caucuses” Democrats and Republicans have been holding at high schools in the Des Moines area the past couple of years.

Below is the list of counties participating in the Iowa Youth Caucus. Students may sign up here. Unless otherwise noted with the asterisk sign, the event will be held on Thursday, November 19. Times might vary by school, but generally, registration will begin at 4:30 and the Iowa Youth Caucus gets underway at 5:30.

Thats legit. I wonder what about Rubio young people would like at all..

He has made a lot of really good emotional arguments that no one has challenged besides Rand which he fell flat on that because he challenged the how conservative Marco is instead of how intellectually honest the emotional argument is and right now people aren't looking too much at policy. He speaks in plain language and his name isn't Clinton or Bush and doesn't look like he is so old he is going to fall over like trump. I've seen a lot of people say that they don't like what he is saying after they hear his platform though, so he has a ceiling of support with young voters.

Yeah guys, Rand did not win. He got 14% of the vote and came in fourth overall. He won Polk County, and everyone thought that meant he won the whole thing. Bummer.

Around 40% will not be able to caucus in February because of age. Rand was 1% away from second place. They were middle school kids and high school kids that participated....

Youth Caucus sends message to campaigns (http://www.kmaland.com/news/pate-youth-caucus-sends-message-to-campaigns/article_1d9b11a0-8f9c-11e5-bdb8-03c70ba714ca.html)

On Thursday night, middle and high school students around Iowa participated in a Statewide Youth Caucus as part of a Caucus 101 curriculum.

Participants gathered at area high schools and were able to participate in both a Democratic and Republican caucus to choose their nominee for the presidency. Bernie Sanders won nearly 53 percent support on the Democratic side, while Dr. Ben Carson claimed the Republican victory with 22 percent. Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate tells KMA News that students were able to hear messages from each campaign before they began the selection process.

"They listened to the candidate's messages, because we had video messages from each of them and -- in some of the cases -- candidates actually came to some of the sites," said Pate. "Based on that, they gave us their snapshot on who they thought was hitting the hot spots and who they would favor for the presidency. It was a great learning experience for them."

Over 1,600 students registered and participated in the event, including around 1,000 students that will be eligible to participate in the real Caucus in February. Pate says the results could serve as an eye-opener for some campaigns when it comes to connecting with a younger electorate.

"They sent some pretty clear signals, I think, based on what the messages were the candidates gave them," said Pate. "I looked at those results and on the Democrat side, 53 percent of the young people were with Sanders and O'Malley had 24 percent, Clinton had just 15 percent. That's a wake-up call, I think, that this is what young people are listening to."

Pate adds that the same message rings true on the GOP side as well.

"On the Republican side, you had 22 percent for Carson, 15 percent for Trump and Rubio popped in there with 14.8 percent, followed by Paul and Cruz," said Pate. "They're listening to the messages the candidates are giving them today and how they are responding. I think, the candidates should take them seriously, because these young people are key voters in the caucuses coming up."

Pate says the participation numbers paired with the results shows how passionate Iowa is about the political process.

"It speaks well to Iowans and how fired up we are about caucuses," said Pate. "I think the candidates better get serious, because these young people are listening, and they are voters."

The full results from the Statewide Youth Caucus are posted below, as well as results from area counties. For more information on the Youth Caucus, visit the Caucus 101 website.

50% of the democratic vote went for the socialist. Looks like the government schools are doing their job.

This could be a fair representation of where we are today. Obviously this over-samples the youth vote, but it doesn't account for campaign GOTV strength. Wash?

Top 4 in IA => Live to fight in NH.

I think Iowa will be easier for Rand to win. I don't see him winning NH unless he wins Iowa.
