Considering the large scale of persistent ignorance that is found among people who call themselves Republicans, does Republican party still has any useful purpose to be around??

I think GOP is maybe tad bit less damaging for future of America than the democratic party but it seems so out of touch with reality on quite a few critical matters.

These are some poll results for 2015.

Then-Secretary of State Colin Powell testifies on Iraq's alleged weapons programs to the United Nations Security Council on Feb. 5, 2003.

Poll: Half of Republicans still believe WMDs found in Iraq

Republicans and Fox News viewers are more likely to hold false beliefs about the president and the war in Iraq, according to a new poll.

In a Public Mind poll (http://publicmind.fdu.edu)from Fairleigh Dickinson University released Wednesday, more than half of Republicans — 51 percent — and half of those who watch Fox News — 52 percent — say that they believe it to be “definitely true” or “probably true” that American forces found an active weapons of mass destruction program in Iraq.

Thirty-two percent of Democrats, 46 percent of independents, 41 percent of people who reported to watch CNN and 14 percent of MSNBC viewers answered similarly.
Overall, 42 percent still believe that troops discovered WMDs, a misleading factor in the decision to invade Iraq in 2003. It was later found that Iraq did have individual stockpiles (http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2014/10/14/world/middleeast/us-casualties-of-iraq-chemical-weapons.html?_r=1)of chemical weapons, but there was no active WMD program in the country.
Thirty-four percent of Republicans believe that rumors of President Barack Obama not being a legal citizen of the United States are “definitely true” or “probably true.” Only 7 percent of Democrats also held this belief. Even after Obama released his birth certificate, 22 percent of independent voters still believe that Obama is probably or definitely not a U.S. citizen.
Fox News viewers were much more likely than others to believe the “birther” rumors. Thirty percent of Fox News viewers thought the rumors were “definitely” or “probably true,” higher than the combined amount of MSNBC and CNN viewers who thought the same.
Thirteen percent of Americans believe that the Secret Service is intentionally leaving the president unprotected as part of a plot

I guess we will find out after this presidential nomination process. They certainly are a bit more useful than the socialist Democrat party.

Really? Since this forum started there has been a large contingent of members who have said that the two party system is borked. Has always been borked. Will always be borked. Not only borked but sanctified like unto licensing to participate in a profession. The profession of politics.

Its purpose is to keep those who fall for the left/right paradigm rooting for Team Red.

If supporters of the Republican party are misinformed, then doesn't that indicate that the party is succeeding at its purpose, rather than failing?

The GOP, just like the Democrats, provides a key component to the government's primary strategy and agenda of divide and conquer, power and control. GOP vs Dems, right vs left, progressives/liberals vs conservatives.

Just keep the populace fighting among themselves while the government continues providing it's theft, murder, and authoritarian tyranny policies.

Well , basically , at a national level , every dem , congress and above is a communist , the mainstream , establishment GOP is your socialist party. Within that party , one in every ten or so , is not quite that bad , these , of course are pretty much all from more rural type of a setting. I have no answer to the question though .

There are different sides. But, the sides are not R vs D.

It provides America's plutocratic-aristocracy with cover by proffering its citizens with an apparent blue v. red duopoly. ...So how about those Giants, Patriots, Warriors!
