People around the world displayed support for France Friday in the aftermath of the massive Paris terrorist attacks that killed at least 129 people.
Now college football teams and players are taking the opportunity Saturday to continue the outpouring of solace for the United States’ oldest ally.

The specific event targeted this evening also had a known Israel connection. The southern-California band Eagles of Death Metal performed in Israel this past summer, despite public efforts led by former Pink Floyd member Roger Waters to convince them not to. According to YNet (http://www.ynet.co.il/articles/0,7340,L-4725208,00.html), the band resisted the call vigorously, with guitarist Jesse Hughes claiming to have answered Waters “F– you.”

Oh, the irony.

Some West Point grads from a few years ago are, at this very moment, helping to carry the ISIS flag into Syria.

What exactly is France allied with us on? Apart from destabilising the Middle East, of course.

Not really the point. Everything ins not about politics. Sometimes it's good to just stand with people who are having a hard time. It's what good people do.

Several years ago our daughter and a fellow student went out of the country to do some benevolence work. While there, they were victims of a crime. They were in a place where there was a lot of anti-American feeling toward our government, but the people of the community could not have been more supportive to the girls. They were angry that visitors to their country were treated badly. As a mom who was far away, I'm grateful that there were real people ther to offer sympathy and support.

That's a lesson we can understand. We might have differences with governments, but those are not the same as showing symbolic support for people who have had a tragedy. While it is true that flags are linked to governments, people have used banners to represent themselves. And in this case, the drummer for Eagles of Death Metal lives in my city, so the tragedy has reached the community here. He's not anyone I know, but he's ours, nonetheless.

I don't mind if a football team reaches out, even if it's symbolic.

Exactly. And this is nothing more then paid patriotism.

It is possible they keep flags of all major countries for general purpose.

Our histories, our culture, even our language, are intertwined.

Looks like they accidentally added red and blue to the French flag.
This is so arrogant and way overdone. It's not like any of us, particularly you, were over there putting ourselves at risk.
I can understand that attitude - back in the day - from the teenage and 21 year old soldiers that got sent over to fight, but coming from an American that saw none of it up close, it just sounds obnoxious.
