by AWR Hawkins - 5 Nov 2015

Merced Couty Sheriff Vern Warnke has identified the University of California Merced attacker who wounded four in a mass stabbing spree as 18-year-old Faisal Mohammad.
...
Breitbart News previously reported the stabbings at UC Merced, which occurred around 8 a.m. on Wednesday. Police shot and killed Mohammad after the stabbings.

According to the Merced Sun-Star, Warnke identified Mohammad as the attacker and said the motive for the attack was “still unclear.”

There is an ongoing spate of mass stabbing attacks in Israel, where Palestinian Muslims have been encouraged by political and religious leaders to stab civilians. It was not clear whether there was any connection between the UC Merced attack and those attacks. Police intend to release more details at a press conference later in the day.

Let's see if the first muslim president of the US will weigh in on this as he did in case of clock kid Ahmed Mohammad and Treyvon-Zimmerman cases.

Yea there are bunch of stories in news these days of Palestinians stabbing Israeli jews... but what this citation means in the case of this news, a mideast connection? Or a purely homegrown Ben Carson stabbing attempt type phenomenon or medication connection or something else?
Leave it to media to report puzzles instead of informative news.

UC Merced student tossed from study group had 'manifesto' on violent revenge

MERCED -- It wasn't terrorism, police said, that led Faisal Mohammad to stab four people Wednesday morning on the UC Merced campus. Instead, it was anger from being kicked out of a study group that spurred a horrific plan, which included ambushing police officers and shooting students, according to the Merced County Sheriff.

In a manifesto found in 18-year-old Mohammad's pocket during his autopsy, authorities found a two-page, detailed document that included a list of his targets and his intentions, said Merced County Sheriff Vern Warnke. The plan included stabbing a police officer, taking that officer's gun and using it to shoot students. Warnke said Mohammad's motive appeared to have stemmed from anger he felt over being "kicked out of a study group" and that the plan was the result of the teen taking his fury to an "extreme level."

"His intentions were pretty substantial," said Warnke. "It's like a dinner where your eyes are bigger than your stomach. He had visions of grandeur."

Warnke added that there was scripted dialogue in the manifesto that revealed what Mohammad planned to say to students and to police as his plot unfolded. But, Warnke said, things did not go as planned.

"His plan went haywire because people fought back," he said. "That was his bad luck." Mohammad, a recent graduate of Wilcox High in Santa Clara, allegedly smiled as he slashed and stabbed two peers, a construction worker and a staff member before being fatally shot by campus officers Wednesday morning. One person remains hospitalized, and a construction worker is being hailed by authorities as a hero for drawing Mohammad out of the classroom where the attack began and rendering aid to the first victim in the stabbing spree.

During a 1 p.m. news conference Thursday, Merced County Sheriff Vern Warnke said he requested the FBI and Department of Homeland Security to investigate Mohammad, and the result of the federal probe found "nothing to indicate political or religious motivations to what he did."

Warnke said a team of 20 FBI agents conducted the investigation into Mohammad, a UC Merced freshman who graduated in June from Wilcox, and his family. The FBI searched Mohammad's computer, dorm room and social media sites.

"There was absolutely nothing they could find to indicate anything other than his being a college student at UC Merced," Warnke said, adding the attack was the result of "personal animosities."

In the later news conference, Warnke stressed that focusing on Mohammad's religious beliefs would be unfounded.

"There are lots of people of the Muslim faith that are kind, gentle, loving people," Warnke said. "One person (who commits a crime) can't be grouped into that whole."

UC Merced Chancellor Dorothy Leland also stressed that, based on the evidence gathered so far, "we have no reason to believe this was related to terrorism."
...
Warnke said investigators found items in Mohammad's backpack indicating he had "greater intentions to do harm," including zip tie handcuffs, two clear bags holding vasoline, a night vision scope, a single lens scope, a safety hammer device to break windows, two rolls of duct tape and small sections of duct tape.

"Petroleum jelly could be used as an explosive," Warnke said. "We don't know what he was going to do with it. We don't know what his intentions were."
...
Patel said Mohammad was friendly and loved basketball, going to the mosque to pray and playing video games with his friends. He added that Mohammad was smart and got good grades.

"No evidence of mental illness" - Police investigators.

We have to read between the lines to know that means that he had no prior evidence of mental illness recorded by Big Brother. We have plenty of evidence now.

"Manifesto" detailed revenge plot in Calif. campus stabbings

MERCED, Calif. -- An 18-year-old California university freshman went on an elaborately planned rampage with a hunting knife because he was barred from a study group, authorities said.

Merced County Sheriff Vern Warnke said a two-page "manifesto" detailing Faisal Mohammad's motive and plans to terrorize and kill several classmates at the University of California, Merced was found on his body Thursday during his autopsy.
...
Mohammad's plan for revenge discussed his anger with being kicked out of the study group, the sheriff said, but he didn't know why the computer science and engineering major was excluded from the group.

Warnke said Mohammad planned to use plastic ties to bind the hands of his classmates to their desks in his Wednesday morning class. He was then going call police with a fake distress call and ambush responding officers with a hunting knife and steal their guns. He planned to use the guns to shoot a list of students he named in his "manifesto," including those in his study group.

"He had delusions of grandeur," the sheriff said. "I don't think he had any actual capability to carry it out."

Warnke said Mohammad's plan was written in English and referenced the Muslim god Allah several times. But Warnke said the student was motivated by personal animosities and the attacks had nothing to do with religion or terrorism.

"We had a teenager who was upset he was kicked out of a study group," Warnke said. "We had a teenager who didn't know how to channel his anger."

The sheriff said Mohammad was born in the United States. He said investigators didn't find any evidence of mental illness.

Mohammad began his rampage by attacking a fellow student with a knife in a required general education course Wednesday morning. Byron Price, 31, a construction worker doing remodeling next door, ran into the classroom and is credited with preventing Mohammad from killing his initial stabbing victim.

Price said he thought he was breaking up a fistfight when Mohammad charged at him with the knife, stabbing him in the side.

"His eyes, I could see fear in his eyes," Price told the Merced Sun Star. He was smiling."

Mohammad fled the room and stabbed two others- one in a stairway, the other on bench outside- before police shot him on a nearby pedestrian bridge.

Police found zip-tie handcuffs, duct tape and a hammer in a backpack near his body. It also contained two plastic baggies of petroleum jelly, which Warnke called a "poor's man" explosive if ignited.

Officials said background checks with the help of the FBI and Homeland Security showed the 18-year-old had no connections to organized hate or terror groups and no past behavior to suggest he would lash out violently.

"We had zero to indicate he was on anyone's radar," Warnke said.

Investigators also found a list of items Mohammad planned to pack in his backpack before the attacks.

"His intention was to do more damage," UC-Merced spokeswoman Lorena Anderson said. "But there is absolutely no reason to believe that this was anything more than an angry young man acting alone."

Warnke said Mohammad's plan was written in English and referenced the Muslim god Allah several times. But Warnke said the student was motivated by personal animosities and the attacks had nothing to do with religion or terrorism.

That part has been left out of many of the news reports. One TV news report stated that people who knew him before college said he was very religious. Religious motivation can not be ruled out.

No doubt there was a combination of factors involved.

- Mentally ill.
- Revenge.
- Delusions of grandeur via copy cat of other mass killers.
- Fish out of water in American culture.
- Religious jihad.

No evidence yet of prescription or other drugs, but that does not rule them out.

Islam and liberty are incompatible. Pick one, make war on the other. There is no middle ground to be had.

According to the article, he was born in the US but lots of teens may feel alienated. Just an angry young man.

Guess he didn't assimilate, did he?

Yes, someone can be like that without any cultural gaps, but it was a foreign environment to him at that college. Double down. Awkward person, mentally ill and isolated.

And yes, I am going with mentally ill. A well person does not go on a mass-murder spree.

UC Merced stabber printed out ISIS flag; police turn probe over to FBI
By Kellan Howell - The Washington Times - Wednesday, November 11, 2015

Police have found a printout of the Islamic State flag among the belonging of Faisal Mohammad, a student who stabbed four people at the University of California, Merced last week.

The flag, which was found alongside a handwritten manifesto with detailed instructions to behead students and multiple reminders to “praise Allah,” suggests that the 18-year-old computer science student had jihadi motivations, but investigators have said there has been no indication that he had any terrorist ties.

Wait, aren't keeping and bearing knives protected by the 2nd Amendment too? ;) :D

Get real. The Founding Fathers didn't consider modern tactical military knives when they wrote the constitution. The 2nd Amendment only applies to blades like letter openers and sheep shears. These days people have KA-BARs, WASP air-injection blade systems (one stab will explode a watermelon like it was hit by a 50 caliber rifle), and even switch blade "combs" (imagine getting raked with a bunch of little pointed "bristles"). I've heard there's even a shady market for knives that can be thrown...
