People remember Reagan as a good guy, Ron Paul was friends with him and he got elected basically on the Ron Paul platform.

Why then did goverment get so much bigger under him, rather than smaller and why will Ron Paul be different?

Thoughts?

Because:
A) He wasn't fully dedicated to reducing the size and scope of government and
B) He was fighting the Democrats like hell and they often over-rode his vetoes.

He compromised to much and basically was headed into alzhemers in his second term. He did a lot of good but not as much as us young idealistic supporters wanted. We were educated on the realities of a"thousand deaths of compromise".

He wasn't as small government as people like to believe. I respect him, but he was a hybrid between a classical and neo conservative. Not a full classical conservatve.

Part of the problem was he also wanted to outspend the Russians to bankrupt them.
It worked.

I believe his second term was hi-jacked as a result of his altheimers in his second term. The same guys in charge today were in charge then.

He really pissed me off when he submitted a "tax cut bill" to congress with a new tax on tips.
