California Republican that never saw a war/military/Israel/spending bill that he didn't like. Never saw a banker bill that he didn't love. A wholly owned subsidiary of Wall Street. He's no better than Boehner and probably worse, if that's possible.

Maybe Boehner got canned because he was not neocon enough ?

If he's next behind Boehner, I don't see how he wouldn't just waltz right into this position with the momentum others may give him. Who else has the name recognition to be a credible challenge and a halfway decent speaker?

Nobody can waltz in without votes secured from over 50% of the members of the House of Representatives. It only takes a group of 20 Republicans to stop anyone. Granted, getting 20 to buck the party establishment might be easier said than done. But it's doable.

Are there any? Trey Gowdy is also floated as a candidate. He's not great but can't possibly be any worse.

Don't know much about him but that thread is positive. Quick review of his voting record isn't much different than any other establishment RINO though. Curious what about him garners Massie's support....

Has nothing to do with his voting record. Webster is on record calling for a return to Regular Order in the House (which would be a huge boon for Liberty Republicans and anyone else outside the establishment) and Webster's tenure as Speaker of the House in Florida suggests this is something he genuinely believes in and would carry out. Everyone gets a chance to introduce amendments, bills go through regular committee process, no more continuing resolutions, ect. How Webster votes on individual bills isn't really important.

If that is the case, great. Do you have a source for his call to a return to Regular Order to share? Perhaps I'm jaded but I do think voting records matter because they demonstrate where the member's priorities and loyalties are.

Rumors of Gowdy retiring have been spread suddenly today too, though Gowdy's office denies it. Timing is interesting.

Kevin McCarthy Withdraws from Speaker Race
http://townhall.com/tipsheet/cortneyobrien/2015/10/08/kevin-mccarthy-withdraws-from-speaker-race-n2063011

The only possible explanation for his exit is his disastrous comments about the Benghazi select committee. They were so damaging, that the Clinton campaign used the sound bite in a campaign ad and a prominent conservative group announced they were supporting his opponent, Rep. Daniel Webster (R-FL) McCarthy had over 200 votes secured for the Oct. 29 vote. This race is suddenly blown wide open.

It's half good news because rather than hold the race now, it's been postponed. Probably to find another schill.
