Not only does the US defense budget equal about half the world's total military spending, but a huge chunk of the rest of the total is spent by close American allies. Russia's military spending, for example, is dwarfed by the combined commitments of the UK, France, and Germany. North Korea's military spending looks like a tiny pimple sitting on the top of South Korea's head.

The big surprise to me here is Saudia Arabia's defense spending. They nearly equal Russia on defense spending yet claim they are afraid of Iran. They really fear Iran's oil coming onto the market, not Iran's military.

Campaign issue: Lock US "defense"(sic) spending at the budget of the next highest spender.

hahahhaha, and to think, they get their jurisdiction from a piece of paper written by men, who died over 200 years ago.

Pretty sure we could pare this back a percent or two.

We could cut back a lot while improving the military.

For instance, my last barracks was built brand new (which Camp Lejuene does need new barracks).

They spent 200 million on the barracks, parking garage, and Battalion Office.

The place was way nicer than it needed to be.

I would seriously compare it to the nicest hotels I've been to, just dorm style beds.

They spent lord knows how much on televisions (at least 30 in the common area), and they bought xbox 360s and ps3s...yet everybody already had those or had the new systems in their rooms!

Instead of buying gaming systems and tv's they should have been smart and put computers and printers out to assure everyone could print up work related items (the average infantry Marine has no work computer access and does not own a printer of their own).

So instead of the unit having the tools it needs to accomplish the admin crap they have 10000 dollars worth of electronics that never got used.

I could actually go on and on telling you how to improve the military and cut spending but I don't feel like writing a book today.

Barracks, pfft. If they aren't in the field expanding the empire then they are a danger to the empire and thus need to be dissolved.

It's not so much what government spends on the military...it's how much YOU give government to spend.

The problem is not them, it's YOU.
