Watch Rand Paul literally shred the US tax code with a chainsaw

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) released an intense new video on Tuesday where he appears to be literally destroying the US tax code.

Paul has made tax reform central to his presidential campaign. To draw attention to his plan, Paul is asking his supporters to vote how they want to see him shred the current tax system.

The options for his supporters are: chainsaw, fire, and wood chipper.

“Hey I’m Rand Paul and I’m trying to kill the tax code — all 70,000 pages of it,” Paul declares in his video.

Then, an electric guitar version of the American anthem plays as Paul proceeds to torch, chop up, and rip through the tax code.

Why the comments on youtube are disabled ? This was pretty good albeit the message was washed out. Somebody was talking about thunder yesterday. No thunder !

Nice . . . thunder in the ad 'fer sure.

Handling a chainsaw, I use a full facemask shield when tackling old trees on the homestead -
but nice to see the clear safety goggles for the opthamologist-Senator in the ad.

Rand said on Fox in the Hemmer interview that he uses a chainsaw when needed -
he seems like a Smooth Operator to me.

Dig a grave, buy a small coffin and a headstone. Hold a funeral for the Tax Code.

That kind of symbolism has a depressing effect on people, no matter what the target is. Not energetic like fire or a chainsaw. And it's just asking for an opponent to take an image straight from it and slap on the caption "Rand mourns death of campaign".

Still, I think the above video could have been more gritty. More camera shots, close up, pieces flying everywhere.

Let's get some video submissions from veterans and/or active military using hard core explosives to destroy the Tax Code. Maybe use a rocket launcher, or a tank, or a pile of C4

I'm surprised they didn't choose the wood chipper based on the Reason debacle.
The could have made a paper-mache effigy and fed it in feet first.

Mythbusters. Let them try different techniques to destroy 70,000 pages and then bring Randal with a single sheet - 14.5%

Thatll be pretty awesome. Rand should use a m2 browning and wreck the tax codes. Itll kill 2 birds with one stone. Pro gun and pro tax reform.

I never would have signed off on this video for Rand. His campaign staff is smoking too much weed. Why did they have to choose the Jimi Hendrex Star Spangled Banner for this ad? Even the FOX News guy had to make a snide comment about that earlier today. Rand does need support from the older, established GOP, religious base to win this thing. He's not going to get it by playing, what some may find to be a disrespectful rendition of the National Anthem.

This video was meant to be directed at Rand's supporters. It will likely not air on TV (except for on the news) and it was designed to be on the Internet.

Well, I played this on a couple of different occasions out loud in our campus' student union today (well, through the excellent Hemmer interview).
It was crowded over lunch time with several older non-students around as well (it seems I couldn't find those darn earpods . . .)

People seemed receptive during those 6 and a half minutes of Mr. Hemmer and Rand discussing the ad and more,
especially at the end with Rand's take on Trump - nobody complained.

Sorry if our grassroots effort didn't really target only the campaign's intended audience - bound to happen though.

Yeah, but it ended up on the news :(( . They should know, news is Bush/Clinton 24/7 and looking for any ammunition to stop rivals. Wasn't very professional, in my opinion. The concept was good, but the presentation was poor. They need to get their chit together, fast.

The news interview with Hemmer with coverage of the ad spot is better than the ad itself, great to see Rand chuckle over it imo.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXN8fG7e9Rw

But more importantly the interview includes the question from Hemmer about getting rid of the 70,000 pages of the tax code.
Hemmer: "What's your idea ?" and "What does that do in your view to the US economy ?"
Rand:; "I think it (the economy) would take off like gangbusters . . ."
Hemmer: "So you got Jimi Hendrix there . . ." Rand: "Yeah, a nice touch."

Maybe not ready for prime time yet, even if I don't personally mind the electric guitar rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" -
I get the points made here and hope the campaign takes it as honest criticism/feedback -
so classical music or soothing jazz or pop, while Rand in business attire calmly and methodically hacks apart the tax code with a chainsaw,
could be cool too. Jus' my 2 ¢

Yes! Eye contact with the camera during a slo-motion sequence with shreds of paper flying around him as the barely visible chainsaw chews through the stack.

Yeah, but it ended up on the news :(That's ok, having people talk about it is just fine because it creates a buzz. But again, this isn't an ad they would directly target to voters.

I think the ad is just targeting young people using the internet. I don't see any primary voters getting offended by it.
