Donald Trump takes considerable lead over GOP presidential field Donald Trump is soaring over his GOP rivals in a new nationwide Washington Post/ABC News poll conducted amid his controversial comments about Sen. John McCain’s (R-Ariz.) “war hero” status.

According to the just-released poll, Trump — with 24 percent support among likely Republican voters — holds a comfortable, double-digit lead over nearest competitor Scott Walker, who captures 13 percent support.

Jeb Bush, Mike Huckabee, and Sen. Marco Rubio round up the top 5 with 12, 8, and 7 percentage points of support, respectively. Sen. Rand Paul, meanwhile, sits in sixth place with 5 percentage points.

Despite his seemingly frontrunner-like numbers and a significant 20 point bump since the last Washington Post/ABC News poll was taken in May, the poll’s authors said Trump suffered a considerable drop following his remarks about McCain on Saturday.

“He was a war hero because he was captured,” Trump told host Frank Luntz during the 2015 Family Leadership Summit in Ames, Iowa. “I like people who weren’t captured.”

According to ABC News, support for Trump during the first three nights of polling held steady at 28 percent, but dropped into single-digit territory on Sunday following his comments about McCain, who was a prisoner of war in Vietnam.

Paul is losing badly in the "HS or less" and "some college" categories :(
He sounds too intellectual for these people. He needs to learn how to connect through emotions. If he is hoping he can engage their brains he might be in for a big disappointment.

As elections usually go, Rand is just not promising the sheeple enough goodies for their votes.

Trump hasn't promised them anything. none of the Republicans have. the free goodies are all on the Democratic side. Trump is appealing to the anger of the declining standard of living. Dave Brat understood that.

doctors by nature talk down to people, and that is something Rand has to work on. the media candidates (Trump, Huck, Kasich) can handle the media better.

Sadly, I like Donald Trump more than any other candidate besides Rand Paul. Its a sad world we live in. Dark days in deed.

According to an ABC News/Washington Post poll (http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/trump-gains-shows-vulnerability-crowded-contentious-gop-race/story?id=32576808) released Monday, Trump leads among 16 Republican candidates with 24 percent of respondents’ support. The next candidate, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, had the support of 13 percent of polled Republicans, while former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush was the choice of 12 percent.

Notably, though, Trump’s support dropped dramatically over the course of the four days the survey was conducted, during which time he was widely condemned for saying that Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) is not a war hero because he was captured.

Over the first three days of the survey, Trump was the choice of 28 percent of respondents, but less than 10 percent of respondents chose him on the final day, this past Sunday.
