View Full Version : Toilets that don't flush, lights that don't light, washers that don't wash, now dish dirtiers

I already have one of the government mandated "high efficiency" clothes dirtiers.

Clothes that retain spots and stains, oh, and are infused with random musty odors.

Never had a washer that had to be washed before.

Now I can look forward to groceries left on my dishes.

Progress!

Appliance industry warns federal dishwasher regs would lead to dirty dishes

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2015/07/20/federal-dishwasher-proposals-upset-appliance-industry-conservatives/?cmpid=edpick&google_editors_picks=true

The home appliance industry has a problem with the Obama administration's new dishwasher regulations: They're a wash, so to speak.

The recent proposal from the Department of Energy is meant to boost dishwasher efficiency by setting stricter limits on the amount of water each dishwasher can use, among other changes. Under the plan, washers could use only 3.1 gallons of water for a single load.

But an appliance industry group says the new measures would be counterproductive -- as they'd force users to run their dishwashers more, and hand-wash, just to get the same results, in turn using more water.

"[The regulations] would result in dishwasher performance that is unacceptable to consumers, essentially turning back the clock to the days of hand-washing dishes," the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) said in a statement.

Robert McArver, vice president of policy and government relations at AHAM, told The Hill that the government is trying to "squeeze blood from a stone that just doesn’t have any blood left."

The DOE passed similar regulations in 2012 that reduced usage from 6.5 gallons to 5 gallons. AHAM argues that bringing that cap even lower would result in perpetually messy dishes.

Some of the group's members even ran their own dishwasher tests under the new standards, and photographs of the results -- showing dishes with food bits on them -- reportedly were shown to DOE officials.

The refrigerator I have has been with this home for about 4 decades and has never needed a repair.

Don't have to, they can just melt our brains with microwaves and save authority the trouble of having to drag us out of our homes and shoot us.

I have all of them as well, but haven't the same problems. The only one I have issues with is the dang dishwasher. I have to pre-wash/rinse nearly everything, and sometimes I find detergent streaks on glasses or plates. I even switched detergents thinking that was the problem, but nope. With all of this pre rinsing, I would bet the water usage is about even with older, less efficient dishwashers.

It is interesting to see how many people are purchasing older appliances on eBay and Craigslist. I've even seen people buy older toilets on eBay. Ewww!

Meh, don't tell anyone but I let the dog pre-wash everything before I put them in.

I think toilet technology got better. Just installed a low volume toilet and it works great. I think it having a 3" flapper helps as it is a rush of water even though the volume is reduced.

Just a bigger flapper, huh?

Not sure what that has to do with what I said. The toilet I bought cost $88 and included everything.

Those toilets aren't even necessary in MN, we have plenty of water. But I have noted the improvement, my home built in 1999 in Denver had low volume too, and it didn't work that well.

Yep... it only took 20 years for the industry to get back to where we were before the regulations.
And just look at all the water it saved in California.

I abandoned dishwashers years ago when they took the phosphates out of detergents. Without the phosphates in the detergents, the machine doesn't clean dishes, it just rinses them. They do make handy drying racks though.

I hate the new dishwasher we have and I never use it . It probably does clean a little better to the previous one, never used it much because you needed to wash them before you put them in there :)

Somebody needs to tell the dishwashing industry that running it twice as much will mean they breakdown twice as fast. More dishwashers sold means more revenue and more revenue means more jobs. In Mexico, maybe but hey! It's a global economy.
