 Just another reason why funding of "research" needs to be left to the free market.

"The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has conducted a research to find out how the sexual orientation influences the body build.- See more at: http://english.pravda.ru/news/world/14-07-2015/131325-lesbians-0/#sthash.tMJ6sgco.dpuf..." why not leverage health/diet programs already being used by DGP's better half for general population instead of funding new programs with tax payers monies?

I never understand how these studies cost so much. Most people won't even make $3,500,000 in their entire life.

Well you need to hire some analysts, then a few assistant directors, then a director of operations. Then you need a sales and marketing department. Oh and there's travel costs, dinners, etc. You end up with 50 people getting paid 70k each for the year.

Or as straight women get older and fatter, they become lesbians, or they start to like gay men.

And in doing so justify their demands for more.

ROFL! So true!

Academia (for the most part) is just a race between a bunch of self-proclaimed "professionals", to get the most funding and publications for their pet projects. Bonus points for tenure and lofty bigwig positions. They accomplish very little. Even the worthwhile research is flooded with so much waste and progresses . After college and working in academia, I don't want to go back. The amount of waste and the politics of academia, is a nightmare. Even some of the lefties that worked with me, complained and many bugged out once they finished their degree or got a job in industry or private labs.

A better study would be why fat women become lesbians :D

Haha! This is one of the few times where serious reconsideration of the explanatory variable (something academics are encouraged to entertain in nearly every study), is a definite no-no. Imagine the reaction if someone actually managed to privately fund and conduct such a study. I doubt it would even pass IRB approval.

Well you need to hire some analysts, then a few assistant directors, then a director of operations. Then you need a sales and marketing department. Oh and there's travel costs, dinners, etc. You end up with 50 people getting paid 70k each for the year.
...and of course, this is only one round. They go on and on in order to "identify a stronger correlation" or "rule out outside variables." The social sciences are the worst. I don't want to hate on them, but my goodness, 20 different labs will do do countless studies to "make sure" it is, indeed, poor parenting that contributes to troubled youth." Only with more "politically correct" references and jargon-laced mumble jumble. Then they have the added fees of travel fees for "collaborating" and conferences. Again, no offense to anyone in these fields/with degrees related to the social sciences. To be fair, I was in the biomedical sciences and they were also pretty bad.

I never understand how these studies cost so much. Most people won't even make $3,500,000 in their entire life.

There is quite a bit of waste. The exact sources vary from field to field. I'm not as familiar with the social science, but I can say the life sciences will blow it on everything from excess staff, unneeded supplies or purchasing supplies from the pricier/priciest suppliers, and unnecessary travel costs. The FDA also makes it tough because they have additional standards for certain phases of clinical trials like phase 1 toxicity studies. A lab cannot take the same results from say India or China and continue on to phase 2 (provided the international phase 1 studies yield acceptable results according to the US standards.) They have to start from square one and redo the costly phase 1 studies.

Should have wasted the money studying why some lesbians want woman that looks like a fat man. Kinda defeats the purpose, but I don't get lots of shit.

Just another reason why I can't figure how some who call themselves libertarian can't see this whole "gay rights" crusade was complete bull from the start. It was all about gaining more power, attacking traditional America, which whether you are completely on board with it or not (and I am not FTR) is the only obstacle in the way of things returning to absolute govt power.
