Man armed with rifle sets up camp outside recruitment center to 'protect' servicemen amid growing cries from GOP to drop gun ban at US military offices#
Unnamed armed vigilante is patrolling recruitment centers in Virginia
He said officers have thanked him for taking a stand to 'protect' them
A man is standing guard at military recruitment centers in Virginia armed with a rifle.
It is a symbolic protest against the ban on weapons in such buildings after the Chattanooga shooting on Thursday, when a gunman killed four Marines and a sailor, and wounded another Marine.
Urging passers-by to join his cause, the unnamed vigilante became one of a growing body of voices - including Republican presidential candidates Jeb Bush, Scott Walker and Donald Trump - to demand that service men and women have the right to bear arms.
'People need to call their congressmen, they need to call their senators, and they need to change the laws on the books so these guys can protect themselves,' the man told WTTG-TV.
