Glimmers of bipartisanship working

Rep. Thomas Massie
July 16, 2015

Washington, D.C., has the bad news blues. Whether it’s Congress passing bills that spend billions of dollars we don’t have, rogue Supreme Court justices ignoring the clear text of the Constitution, or yet another unelected executive branch bureaucrat issuing a “regulation” that punishes free enterprise, it often seems that victories for freedom and liberty are rare.

Nevertheless, from time to time there are glimmers of good news. Last month, for example, four of my amendments passed the U.S. House of Representatives. Three were attached to the annual Commerce, Justice, Science Appropriations bill, which funds agencies such as the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and the Drug Enforcement Administration. The other was attached to the annual Department of Defense Appropriations bill, which funds the National Security Agency.
