‘This will not be quick,’ Obama says of campaign against the Islamic State
https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/obama-makes-rare-visit-to-pentagon-for-update-on-islamic-state-operations/2015/07/06/1c5d1728-23e7-11e5-aae2-6c4f59b050aa_story.html

Coalition operations against the Islamic State have scored successes in Iraq and Syria, but the battle against the extremist group promises to be a “generational” one, President Obama said after military leaders briefed him on the campaign.

Lets repeat that:

the battle against the extremist group promises to be a “generational” one

...

Other officials who attended Monday’s briefing included Gen. Lloyd Austin III, commander of U.S. Central Command; Gen. Joseph Votel, head of Special Operations Command; and, in a sign of a worrying expansion for the group in North Africa, Gen. David Rodriguez, who heads U.S. Africa Command.

It does not have to be this long, we just need to stop doing this:

They did. Obama is just doubling down on Bush Sr and the MIC's policies. War is money. War is a pretest to spy on and control the population.

Always remember that every time the US Gvmt has declared a war on something: Drugs, poverty, terrorism, etc. We have gotten more of this "something'.

The media is spinning it. Replacing "long" for "generational". Are all the networks doing this? The edit of like 5 seconds of video was pretty blatant.

Did C-SPAN get the whole thing? This would be a great YouTube comparison.

Did we really give or sell them THAT much military hardware and ammo, enough to last for a generation? If not, then there's no reason for it to last that long. Sounds like someone's trying to keep the value of their stock portfolio pumped up.

That was my first thought too. Though consider that Iraq was allready a arsenal full of Russian weapons, then we pulled out and abandoned tons of weapons and munitions, then they took over a lot of Syria and got more weapons and in all three cases they probably got arms production facilities.

OTOH, those AA guns are taking short bursts as are the machine guns. So that either has to do with weight and mobility as brass can be reloaded about 10 times. AK chow is generally not reloadable. Also barrels melt if fired too much. Or it could mean ammo is in short supply. Their taking prisoners and executing them while conserving ammo also points to their being supply issues. Logistics seems to be their Achilles heal, but then they are selling oil so presumably could buy additional weapons.

So yeah, if they play their cards right, this could stretch on for generations.

OTOH2 The US is replacing most of it's air force with F35's, a aircraft that can't do close ground support, can't dogfight, can only go supersonic for brif periods, is poorly armored, has a small payload and can only land on special landing strips that can deal with the extra heat. In short, these things can be taken down by older generation MiG's that just about every banana republic owns and we are about to loose air superiority due to bad design decisions. Now we are fighting a air war against ground forces... hmmm...

Until more people started to distance themselves from ddg, he may think he is doing a great job. So called "celebs"/media/sports leaders with honor and not on neecons payroll need to start playing a role.. perhaps taking a page from athletes in Europe.
