On June 3, Alabama's House Judiciary Committee rejected a bill, which had previously prevailed in the Alabama Senate, that would have abolished the state's marriage licensing system and replaced it with a contract process that would not require a government official's approval in an effort to prevent probate judges from arbitrarily refusing to sign off on same-sex marriages.
