In an attempt to prevent probate judges from arbitrarily refusing to sign couples' marriage licenses, the Alabama Senate voted 22-3 in favor of a bill that would allow couples to get married without first having to ask a government official for permission.

If by some stretch of a miracle this thing became law, it would mark the beginning of many of the states (southern at least) passing there own bills once they see it work in Alabama. Could be great.

Maybe good will come from this in the end but have we conceded the power to federal judges to strike down whatever state laws they morally disagree with?
