Thanks for the link video.

Sen. Rand Paul is getting his way on Capitol Hill, as the Senate leaves without extending the Patriot Act.

McConnell and neocons do not have enough votes (60) for a 2-month extension . . .
The Senate will not return until May 31st, a day before provisions in the Patriot Act will expire without reauthorization.

video clip is perfect . . .
Rand waits to be recognized - gives a complete objection with reasons . . .
Rand:". . . I will object and I do.",
subsequent time defers to the Sen. Heinrich (D-NM) to render the objection, then third time simply Rand: "I object".

OP - Please link to the official Senate roll call page so we can know EXACTLY which vote this was!

They needed 60 . . .
the Senate blocked the "popular" House bill by falling three votes of the super majority needed . . .

I'll note that both Iowa GOP Senators - Mr. Grassley and freshman Ms. Ernst - voted Nay,
as did Cruz (R-TX) and Lee (R-UT) . . .

60 votes weren't there and
we are all glad the junior Senator from Kentucky could - in not so less terms - institute the doctrine of estoppel -
to prevent the Majority Leader from Kentucky from going on vacation after instituting a unanimous consent to extend without objection.
Senator Heinrich (D-NM) was also there at least to render one of the objections formally - instituting an "estop" of McConnell/Majority Leader "shenanigans", imho.

In other words Senators, if you want to be on record for the May 31 debate on the Patriot Act -
ya' only get a week back with constituents or on other vacation.

Maybe, May 31 - or the whole Memorial Day week - will be a good time for patriotism in DC ?

Changed the bold name of the bill pre vote counts to a clickable link to Senate.gov source

----

I know there is a standard protocol to call one's own Senator and voice an opinion of the vote and hope it provides a little influenced, but does anyone else think we should get a concerted effort to call or write those Senators that voted NO on both bills and just simply thank them?

Possibly keep a simple spreadsheet or shared Drive doc that has each Senator, their number and we just keep tallies on received call/letters.

Might be some serious internal pressure from the Executive Branch, Industry Insiders and their fellow Peers for them to stand down. Would probably be nice amidst all that skulduggery, they know we appreciate their stance and support it's continuation. I'm afraid to see Rand/Wyden left out in the cold Sunday.
