On Wednesday, lawmakers in Nebraska voted overwhelmingly in favor of a bill that would abolish the death penalty. Though Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts says he will veto the bill, Nebraska's unicameral legislature currently has the votes to override his veto.

First "Red state" to vote to get rid of Death Penalty. Death penalty isn't really that effective of a crime deterrent and is irreversible if a mistake is made. With all the costs of death penalty trials and their automatic appeals, it costs more than life in prison does as well.
