I'm watching it live on Fox right now. Apparently a Fox News reporters saw it happen.

He says the man was running from police and was shot in the back.

I haven't seen it in print yet, but I'm sure it'll be all over the place in no time...

My reaction?

possibly related?

Seems there have been a ton of shootings in baltimore since the unrest started. I've seen at least 10 on the baltimore pd twidder feed; many head shots.

ETA. not related.

It appears the guy who was shot may have been armed.

They're showing a revolver lying on the ground near where he went down.

But according to the Fox reporters, there was no exchange of fire, just the one shot from the cop.

One shot?
One?

Only if the guy was handcuffed in leg shackles and face down on the pavement.
There's no other way a cop could get the job done with ONE shot.

Fox interviewing witness: says guy was 18-19, sitting on steps of house, police car stopped by house, guy took off, police chased and then fired.

Witness says guy did not have gun in his hand.

OKay, so based on what I've heard, here's what actually happened:

Guy sitting on steps by house, cop car stops, guy takes off w/pistol in pants, cop chases him, pistol falls out of guys pants and goes off accidentally, guy thinks cops are shooting at him and hits the deck, cop thinks guy is shooting at him and draws his pistol, no one is actually shot, guy is arrested and sent to hospital as precaution.

...what a clusterfuck.

Dude shot first. I have no problem with this one at all. You walk up to some event and start shooting people, I'm not gonna shed a tear when they drag you out in a body bag.

This one is not clear cut like the Texas one, but assuming the events are true as described, I wouldn't really blame the cop for 'returning' fire. Dude's not omniscient. Sounds like nobody got hurt though, so that's good.

When criminal savagery reaches critical mass and meets an increasingly authoritarian police force, this is what happens. Unstoppable force, immovable object and all.

From Washington Post:

Fox News erroneously reported that Baltimore police shot a man Monday in the same neighborhood where unrest broke out last week — a mistake quickly corrected by the news network.

The midafternoon report by correspondent Mike Tobin, which also found its way onto Foxnews.com, was potentially dangerous, given the elevated tensions in Baltimore’s Sandtown section, where protests and looting erupted in the wake of the death of Freddie Gray while in police custody.

Tobin’s report caused about 30 minutes of unease in Baltimore before Fox anchor Shepard Smith went on-air to correct the story and apologize for the incorrect information. His apology followed a statement from Baltimore police that there had been no shooting.

Just a thought but maybe if these "youths" weren't committing so much goddamn crime they wouldn't keep having run-ins with the police?

Did any of these cops have prior Afghan/Iraq freedom spreading experience by any chance?

He probably did, it was just a mention of a killing by a cop of a black man and not on its justification. In general I'm quite skeptical of early media reports untill they are proven factual.

No explosives found. Initial media reports wrong. Imagine that.

Common theme, in initial media report unarmed mother Miriam Carey was a shooter and may have had explosives in her car. She was shot in the back of the head mutiple times by DC cops "out of abundance of caution" apparently.
Considering that the reported suspect in this case was of same skin color as Miriam Carey , one cannot be too careful.

You don't think it's possible to have a run-in with cops, without committing a crime? Have you ever been through a checkpoint? Has a cop ever shown up at your house by mistake, or perhaps even by way of a false report? You don't think these things ever happen? Or do you just think that it'll never happen to you?

i don't know anything about 'explosives,' that detail was new to me here. However this shooting I knew about live, as some of my OK friends had friends on the ground here feeding live reports. All I know is these two people opened fire first and then got shot and killed. That came from an eye witness. I haven't even read any BSM reporting on it yet.

Probably eye witness accounts are accurate in this case, was just noting that eye witness accounts involving black suspects killed by cops have not always been accurate. I recall hearing on live nbc feed eyewitness reports about shots being fired from car of that other black suspect Miriam Carey before she was executed by well-trained elite DC cops. Way later it came out she was unarmed.

It's true that eyewitness accounts are notoriously inaccurate; but I think that depends really on the source. This guy is an Oathkeeper, and was reporting from the scene via HAM radio. My reason for believing the report is more his status as an Oathkeeper than anything else. Trained in observation like military and police, plus the personal integrity of an Oathkeeper. Added together I decided the report was credible. If it wasn't an OK, then I'd be a lot more cynical about it.
