On the day when citizens of the civilized world take to the internet to do their best to fool each other, the President has declared, in true George W. Bush fashion that "we won't be fooled again".
President Obama met today with the press to speak about the great issue of joke headlines bombarding the internet on April Fools Day, and the subsequent executive order he plans to sign to eliminate them.
"In my presidency, we have always taken the view that the government knows what's best for you. What healthcare you get, what you put in your body, and in this case, what you read on the internet".
"It is for this reason that I am calling for an end to April Fools day shenanigans that do great harm to our citizenry's ability to understand what's actually happening in the world. This executive order will ensure that any and all communication sent on April Fool's Day will be subject first to review board to determine their legitimacy. Only once they have passed our thousand page regulatory checksheet, may they then be shared to the public".
If the order goes as planned, it could be implemented on a wide scale, requiring communications on all other days to be subjected to the same review: "I think we have a real opportunity here to make sure that the conversation isn't dictated by alternative voices. The people have spoken, and realize that only the government has the maturity and critical thinking skills to determine what you need to read and not to read".
When questioned whether this would contribute to the already many conflicts of interest in the messaging of governments and powerful players, Obama responded, "Well yeah, but we already do that shit anyway".
