Attorney General Eric Holder said the Department of Justice could go as far as dismantling the Ferguson Police Department to ensure change after the DOJ report that found it discriminated against blacks in the Missouri city.

“We are prepared to use all the powers that we have, all the power that we have to ensure that the situation changes there and that means everything from working with them to you know coming up with an entirely new structure,” Holder told reporters on the tarmac of Andrews Air Force Base today.

Asked if that includes dismantling the police department, Holder said, “If that's what's necessary, we're prepared to do that."

White House and DC police tight-lipped over handling of fatal car chase
Obama administration refused to comment on police's response to the car chase which left Miriam Carey dead
Oct 4, 2013 -
Police and the Obama administration remained tight-lipped on Friday over the handling of a car chase in Washington DC that ended when officers shot dead an unarmed woman in front of her one-year-old daughter.
Officials from the agencies involved in the incident declined to provide any explanation of their officers' actions, beyond praising them in glowing terms.
Officers from the secret service and Capitol police attempted to detain Miriam Carey, 34, after her car tried to breach a perimeter barrier close to the White House.
Video footage showed police appearing to corner her car before Carey managed to get away. Police gave chase and shot her dead around 1.7 miles from where the incident began. Carey's daughter was in the car at the time.

Change for what reason and on who's authority?

Officer was not indicted. No wrong was done.

The legal process in this case was pretty interesting. Especially the behavior of the prosecutor. There have also been other people killed.

Just responding to your question from my perspective. It is also my perspective that holder has no business in the affairs of this police department. If anything, holder should be facing his own trials for criminal activity.

as for the Ferguson Police, nothing will change, and nothing will change with cops nationwide, so what i would suggest is, we all need to practice bending over at the waist while we chant..''thankyou sir, may i have another'', and hope you don't get shot or beaten to death...

have a nice day.

I would be far more interested in dismantling the "Justice" department. Why do we need them, exactly?

Problem solved. Let's say that the population in Ferguson is 70% black, institute a police policy that for every 7 black people the cops kill they have to kill 3 white people.

So, we're going to turn Ferguson over to the people who shot Miriam Carey and expect improvement? My, aren't we goofy bastards?

Fifty years ago, racism was used as an excuse by the federal government to micromismanage states. Now it is being used as an excuse by the federal government to micromismanage suburban towns.

The next time you hear 'progressive' you'll know what they consider 'progress'.

Last January, NYC cops stopped issuing tickets and DiBlasio and his city council were all upset over the loss of revenue! The city council's budget actually includes the amount of revenue it expects from fines, summons, tickets etc! Cops complained the quota system makes things worse between police and community.

As NY attorney general, Loretta Lynch bragged about all the money collected through asset forfeiture, and has said “Civil and criminal forfeiture are very important tools of the Department of Justice as well as our state and local counterparts”. She was very proud of the $904 million raised this way in 2013.

Just like Ferguson, the majority of arrests in NYC are minorities, and though it struggles to make itself the "most diverse" police department, the majority of officers are still white. Why the favoritism for New York City?!

Slowdown has cost city over $46M in lost revenue

...
Feuding between cops and City Hall has already cost the city more than $46 million in lost parking-ticket revenue — staggering losses that could take a bite out of critical programs and services, critics charged Sunday.

“It’s not a natural disaster — this is man made,” said Glen Bolofsky, president of Parkingticket.com, a ticket-fighting service which crunched the numbers.

Because ticket revenue is accounted for in the city’s budget — $518 million a year, according to a November 2014 Office of Management and Budget report — the spectrum of a budgetary shortfall has become real.

“There obviously are some financial ramifications,” said Councilman Brad Lander (D-Brooklyn).

The drain amounts to more dough than the city lost in ticket revenue to Superstorm Sandy — because the feds eventually reimbursed those millions.

“The city depends on it a lot,” noted a City Council source, who added that rosy property-tax and payroll-tax projections might have to make up for the missing ticket revenue.

Sandy’s ravages led to an unintentional 90-day slowdown, costing the city $189 million in lost parking-ticket revenue, the Parkingticket.com review said...

“Making threats and moving the department back towards the quotas that initially created the ill will with the community will only make morale among police and the relationship with the community even worse,” said Police Benevolence Association President Pat Lynch.

Ed Mullins, the Sergeant’s Benevolent Association president said the real issues are quotas and “dividing the community and police.”

“As a result of these quota policies, I am exploring a toll-free number for members of the public and the NYPD to voice their concerns regarding the abuse of quotas,” he said.

The mayor’s office said New Yorkers wouldn’t notice a dip in needed services.

“The administration will continue to ensure that investments in key services and priorities like education and health care will be maintained,” said de Blasio spokesman Phil Walzak, who added that City Hall is “encouraged that the NYPD expects arrests and summonses to return to normal levels.”
