Pennsylvania governor imposes moratorium on death penalty calling it 'error prone, expensive and anything but infallible'

By Associated Press and Francesca Chambers For Dailymail.com

Newly elected Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf imposed a moratorium on the death penalty in the state Friday, calling the current system of capital punishment 'error prone, expensive and anything but infallible.'

Wolf said the suspension will remain in effect at least until he receives a report from a legislative commission that has been studying the topic for about four years.

'If we are to continue to administer the death penalty, we just take further steps to ensure that defendants have appropriate counsel at every stage of their prosecution, that the sentence is applied fairly and proportionally, and that we eliminate the risk of executing an innocent,' Wolf said in a memorandum announcing the policy.

Good.

But replace "death penalty" with "justice system" and he'd also be right.

Well, here I go.... I too, am against the death penalty in general, for the most part because I know the system is so broke, and full of psychopaths that don't have any conscious thoughts about sending an innocent person to be executed.... but there are extreme cases that, I can't help but see, as justice.

Prosecutors in St. Charles County have charged the mother of an infant girl with abuse and second degree murder stemming from an incident last December.

The grim and chilling details were released Monday.

In an amended complaint against Jessica Lynn Howell, 25, prosecutors now allege that she knew her boyfriend, Jordan Lafayette Prince, had previous convictions for sexual offense against a minor.

Prince is currently awaiting trial for first degree murder in the death of four-month-old Ashlynn Lilith Peters on December 3, 2012. Police allege that Prince strangulated Ashlynn after sexually assaulting her.

First responders were called to Prince’s home Dec. 2 because Ashlynn was not breathing, police said. The baby was taken to one hospital, then flown to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center, where she died about noon the next day.

An autopsy revealed the cause of death was asphyxiation, according to court records. The child also suffered serious injuries related to the sodomy that caused internal bleeding. Those injuries would have caused her death even without the strangulation, court documents say.

In addition, the baby had bruises to her chest, abdomen, left arm, back and legs. She also was the victim of blunt force trauma to the left side of her head, causing a cut to her ear and bleeding near her skull.

The complaint against Ashlynn’s mother, Jessica Howell, alleges she had sent text messages to Prince suggesting her willingness to allow him to engage in sexual activity with Ashlynn.

By the way, she got a deal, of course, and got 25 years that she has to serve 85% of..... not good enough for me at all.

He hasn't been sentenced yet, as far as I know.

Good...although I still fully support the death penalty for politicians.

Meh... execution of murderers is justified but I don't trust our current system to do it correctly. Locking people up for life isn't really better.
