Oklahoma has become known as one of the reddest states in the country. For the first time there are more registered Republicans than Democrats. In the last two presidential elections every county voted for the Republican Presidential nominee. Probably more accurately stated, many of the (Democrat) counties voted against Barack Obama guaranteeing a Republican victory.
Since Statehood in 1907 the Democrats have dominated state politics. For the first 100 years, Republicans never held the majority in the State Senate and the House was under Democrat control except for a brief two year period back in the 1920's. A former well known Democrat politician held a national title of serving the longest in any state legislature for a whopping 54 years.
But things have changed in Oklahoma politics over the last decade. Today Republicans hold every statewide office, and have supermajority in the House and Senate. With a Republican governor and a Republican legislature one might ask, what else needs to be done in the reddest state in the country? Plenty! There are many city, county and local elected offices still dominated by Democrats.
As Republican chairman I will work to find Republican nominees at every level of government. In order to win races in predominately Democrat areas we must have the boots on the ground to to help support the candidate. As Chairman I will spend the next two years preparing our Party so that we may be in a better position to turn the blue Counties to red.
The Oklahoma Republican Party is still the Party of ideas, principles, and values. Although Republican registration in the state has grown to where we now have super majorities in the legislature, there is still a lot of work to do. There are hundreds of precincts around the state that do not have a chairman, which means our message is not being shared effectively in those areas.
The State Republican Party Chairman has a huge responsibility. He is tasked to carry the GOP message to those who believe in our principles but have not yet joined our Party and invite them to do so. It is also a position to serve the faithful members that worked tirelessly for the Republican Party. The Chairman must be ready to not only share the Party's ideas, but listen to new ones as well.
The conservative message of limited government and the expansion of freedom can best be shared by someone who truly believes in them and has a track record of protecting and promoting those values. As you consider your choice for the next Chairman, I would be honored to have your support. My record proves I am a dedicated servant of the people, a protector of our GOP ideas, and a leader, willing and ready to serve you once again.
