This was 20 years in the making. He literally danced between the raindrops for so long. Easily, NY's most crooked politician and the most powerful for a long time. This was the same stooge who sponsored the SAFE act and cobbled together support for that monstrosity.

This says a bit:

Mayor de Blasio, speaking after the speaker surrendered to the FBI, said he did not believe that Silver should resign.
“Although the charges announced today are certainly very serious, I want to note that I’ve always known Shelly Silver to be a man of integrity,” the mayor declared.

I wonder how many people this guy could take down with him if he was so inclined.

Good news is one less crook on the scene to loot US tax payers.

Bad news, it could have ripples in holy land welfare situations.

Just like I said:

The events this week have shaken that sense of security and raised the possibility that Mr. Silver, the quintessential capital insider, could reveal his own colleagues’ misdeeds to federal prosecutors in exchange for leniency.

Sheldon Silver's fall signals end of a (Jewish) era in New York politics

Silver, one of the most powerful men in state politics, was arrested by FBI on corruption charges; his arrest marks the falling to pieces of Lower East Side Gang.

New York State’s most powerful Jewish powerbroker has fallen.
The city awoke Thursday morning to a political world turned inside out. Sheldon Silver, among the two or three most powerful men in state politics since 1994, surrendered to FBI agents in the early hours of the morning at a federal building in Foley Square, just blocks from the Lower East Side district he dominated for decades.

NEW YORK -- Gov. Andrew Cuomo wasn't the one in custody on Thursday. But the arrest of powerful New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver could spell plenty of trouble for his fellow Democrat.

This probably is not related, swc team does not seem like the kind of people who would prosecute people based on personal vendettas or to settle political scores. Prosecution of daughter of Pastor Wright was probably a coincidence.

Why? It sounds like Mr. Silver was primarily interested in money; whereas Pres. Underwood is more interested in power and looks down on those looking to acquire just money.

The feds got Silver accidentally after Meara was grabbed. He was never the target of the probe.

http://nypost.com/2015/01/23/close-friend-top-lobbyist-helped-feds-take-down-sheldon-silver/

Meara, 63, has been friends with Silver for decades and is among the state’s most powerful lobbyists, with offices in both Manhattan and Albany.

His relationship with Silver dates back to the 1970s, when they met in the Manhattan courthouse where Silver worked as a law clerk for Civil Court Judge Francis Pecora and Meara was a young court officer.

“The fact that Meara is the witness is not a good sign for Shelly,” said one Albany insider, alluding to how much Meara knows about his pal.

In addition to the state court officers union and other labor groups, Meara represents a host of big-bucks industries, including casino operators, insurance companies and soft-drink makers.

His clients also include the Yankees owners and the Silvercup Studios production facility in Queens.

The Bayside resident is also close to Queens Democratic boss and US Rep. Joe Crowley, while his brother, Chuck, was chief of staff to former City Council Speaker Christine Quinn.

A nephew, Assemblyman Ed Braunstein (D-Bayside), also formerly worked as one of Silver’s legislative aides.

According to Thursday’s criminal complaint against Silver, Meara got a non-prosecution deal from the feds in exchange for agreeing to serve as a “fact witness” against the Manhattan Democrat.

Cuomo freaking out at arrest and what it could signal

http://nypost.com/2015/01/26/cuomo-on-edge-as-federal-corruption-probe-continues/

And several sources described Cuomo — who along with his aides is being investigated by Bharara over the abrupt disbanding of the governor’s Moreland Act commission on public corruption — as “on edge’’ over Bharara’s ominous statement Friday that the public should “stay tuned’’ for more criminal charges to come.

“Andrew’s been working the phones day and night, staying up into the early morning hours, making hundreds of calls in one day trying to find out what the hell is going on,’’ a source close to the governor said.

Cuomo, who has retained a private lawyer, has enlisted several former federal and state-level prosecutors with ties to Bharara’s office including Steve Cohen, his former chief-of-staff, in an effort to find out Bharara’s next move, the sources said.

“He’s freaked-out, furious, and obsessed with fear, it’s like a nightmare for him. The whole narrative he laid out for his second term has been derailed by Bharara,’’ said a source in regular contact with the governor.

“The narrative has been taken over by Bharara and it’s all about Albany’s corruption, not Cuomo and his program for the state,’’ the source said.

Silver literally owns judges and then uses them to grease the skids for the suits that his firm takes to court. How many businesses did this crook negatively impact with his rigged court?

http://nypost.com/2015/01/25/silvers-law-firm-rakes-in-cash-as-asbestos-court-fast-tracks-claims/

Of 15 mesothelioma verdicts in the last four years, Silver’s firm won $273.5 million of $313.5 million awarded by NYCAL juries. Law firms usually take a third.

The average award for a NYCAL asbestos case — nearly $16 million per plaintiff between 2010 and 2014 — is two to three times larger than those in other courts nationwide, Bates White reported last month at an asbestos law conference in New York.

Conference speakers included Heitler, Madden and Perry Weitz, Silver’s law partner and a founder of Weitz & Luxenberg.

Last month, the American Tort Reform Association branded NYCAL the nation’s top “judicial hellhole,” saying it’s rife with plaintiff attorneys “brazenly favored by the judges.”

The group largely blames Silver, who not only has killed any tort reform, such as efforts to limit claims and cap damages, in Albany, but wields enormous power over the judiciary.

“Imagine you’re a judge and you know the person in front of you litigating in asbestos court is also responsible in some way for your career,” said Tom Stebbins, a spokesman for the New York Lawsuit Reform Alliance, which also faults Silver.

Wrong. It takes more than a few, it takes a village of thieves to orchestrate such theft. Everybody (NY so mostly Jews, but it is Italians as well and others) get a piece of the theft to want and desire to keep scum like this in power. Make no mistake, someone's father, brother, daughter, sister looked the other way for this vermin, and others such as him, to be in power. Cuomo is just as dirty. And the people of this state want him.
