Washington (CNN)President Barack Obama's administration admitted it erred by failing to send a higher-ranking representative of the United States to the Paris unity march on Sunday.
"I think it's fair to say that we should have sent someone with a higher profile to be there," White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said Monday afternoon.

It would only magnify the hypocrisy. Obama's the greatest asset Islamic jihad has. How many countries has he handed over to them so far? Libya, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria...?

What is the official reason given?
If one were to speculates reasons for not sending any high gov official. Due to recent war on terror, US officials require high security, how could one million + rally crowd be screened for that level of security?
Another less likely reason could be same as for which Obama cancelled visit to holiest sikh temple in India few years back, for fear of "looking muslim". CH editor was a communist and Obama has been called communist/marxist by Republicans in the past. His administration may be sensitive to being seen too close to a communist mag in France if a joint photo could have been taken by someone.
Sheer speculation though.

Could it be that Obama/Holder do not believe Al Qaeda/ISIS was behind this attack?
Eric Holder: No 'Credible Information' To Determine Responsibility For Paris Attacks
The Huffington Post | By Samantha Lachman
Attorney General Eric Holder avoided naming a specific terrorist organization as responsible for last week's attacks in Paris during a flurry of appearances on Sunday political shows.
"Well, at this point, we don't have any credible information that would allow us to make a determination as to which organization was responsible," Holder told ABC's "This Week" host George Stephanopoulos.

Or France also asked Obama privately to not attend?

After the French government began to send invitations to world leaders to participate in the rally against terror, Hollande’s national security adviser, Jacques Audibert, contacted his Israeli counterpart, Yossi Cohen, and said that Hollande would prefer that Netanyahu not attend, the source said.

McCain: Paris Attack Showed ‘Professionalism No Lone Wolf Could Have Carried Out’
“The nature of that attack showed a degree of professionalism that no lone wolf could have carried out,” McCain said.
“Right now in Syria, they are training people to go back to the country they came from and commit acts of terror.” the GOP Arizona senator said, adding that this was also the view of British intelligence.

I thought we were talking about the attack where one of the attackers not only brought his ID to the party, but dropped it at the scene of the crime...

And many more innocent non-American children, civilians.
But to be fair, these 12 were europeans residing a civilized city, they are in a different vale system metric than namesless/faceless brown children droned to pieces in poverty stricken, uncivilized Abu Ghriab land aka Iraq, yemen, Afghanistan etc. He should have gone.
