...Everyone make mistakes, but these days police officers do their job while under the often unfair scrutiny of anti-police activists, reporters looking for a big story, and politicians who want to get votes.

Our critics demand that we scrupulously follow ever-shifting rules of engagement as we try to pursue and capture the most dangerous and violent people in our society. And those we seek to apprehend have no such rules of engagement for themselves. They will beat us, stab us, and shoot us if they think it will help them escape.

We're expected to know our communities, be present in schools, and be visible to citizens but we have to do it while being under-staffed and struggling to simply answer each call that comes in; sometimes without any backup.

When we confront someone who a dispatcher or a crime victim says is potentially dangerous, we're expected to know in a split second if that person is grabbing for a gun or just reaching for ID. Our detractors, acting as armchair police commanders, claim that we ought to be able to recognize the difference between someone who’s not following our directions because of a bad day and someone who is escalating a dangerous situation.

And while all this plays out, our families hope and pray that we simply come home safe at the end of our shift.

We chose this job. Most of the time, we love our work. But there’s no doubt that it’s a tough time to be a cop.

So when people step up and “stand with cops,” that helps us. Our spirits lift. Our outlook brightens. That’s when we know that we’re not alone in this dangerous work.

Please join “stand with cops."

Everyone make mistakes

The evil work you do, Jay, and that you and your "brothers" cover up and defend, are NOT "mistakes".

And while all this plays out, our families hope and pray that we simply come home safe at the end of our shift.

My job is, statistically, much more dangerous than yours.

It is not made easier, having to negotiate my way home through a million man standing army, every one of which is at a war footing against me and itching to fuck somebody up for non-compliance, every time MY "shift" ends.

Take your lachrymose whining and stuff it up your ass.

Don't like the job?

Stop being a tax tick and parasite on your fellow men and go get a real job that produces something.

Who are they petitioning, exactly?
What are their demands?
Immunity from accountability? Not to be questioned about the use of excessive force? Carte blanche when prowling patrolling?
Hugz? Worship? Attaboys? What?

If this was a petition to help cops fired for actually doing what was right, and they were asking our help to keep their jobs so they can continue to protect us...even from fellow cops? I'd sign gladly.

But this? I'd rather slam my testicles in a car door.

You are not "safe" when the government claims for itself the authority to anally violate you on the side of the freeway.

Last time I checked, such activity fell in the "villainous", not the "heroic" category.

The irony in that picture is rather thick, isn't it?

I was going to suggest people sign the petition using names like "Cops R Creeps" , and other such things in the various spaces, but you'd probably want to hide your IP address. Maybe that sounds paranoid, but I remember how cops banded together and got a woman fired from her job just for speaking her mind about them on her Facebook page.

I could picture anything that hurts their feelings being considered some sort of a "terroristic threat" that could potentially bring on worse things (getting "SWATTED", etc). I've noticed a few negative comments on their facebook page already -- those won't last long.

What if I did it from my college dorm? Would they be able to figure out which computer it came from? Or would it just make Patrick Henry College look bad in the government's eyes? (which would be sorta funny, actually;))

We may disagree about how, exactly, to accomplish this, but this is sound advice, regardless.

Sure does look good on paper doesn't it.

Now replace the word cop with "Waffen SS" and what you have are empty words founded on empty rhetoric with no axiom or principle guidelines.

They need their whittle egos stroked...Here is another story that coincides with the OP petition discussion:
http://wdtn.com/2015/01/09/fop-invites-community-members-to-stand-with-cops/

It’s important for law enforcement to know that their community stands behind them bc they go our everyday and come out when you call for service” said Andrew McKenna, fraternal police associates of Ohio.

People showed that support by writing letters, or getting a bulb from Project Blue Light – a visible reminder that the community stands by those who protect and serve.

Sgt. Fraley, he hopes events like this bridge any gaps between the community and law enforcement.

“I’ve seen a lot and I try to remember it’s more of a misunderstanding and a. Lack of education on what it is we do and the constraints were under legally” said Sgt. Fraley...http://wdtn.com/2015/01/09/fop-invites-community-members-to-stand-with-cops/

Project blue light:

A BLUE LIGHT
Place a light in your window, make sure it is blue
Reminding friends, an officer gave a life for you
Give light to their remembrance, the color is sad
To family left by officers who knew them as Dad
It isn’t the money, most definitely not the hours
They aren’t comic book hero’s with unnatural powers
They’re simply human beings who place life on the line
Place a blue light in your window, let their memory shine!
By Gene Rooney November 29th,2007

“PROJECT BLUE LIGHT”
The color blue is symbolic of “PEACE”
By displaying your blue light(s) you send a message that you support America’s Peacekeepers, your light is guiding them to safety, and you hope the year will be peaceful. Shine it for the holiday season or let it shine all year long.
Project Blue Light is a nationwide recognition of those Police Officers who have died in the line of duty. It began in 1988 in Phila when Dolly Craig wrote a letter to Concerns of Police Survivors stating that she would be honoring her late son-in-law, Philadelphia Police Officer Danny Gleason, during the holiday season by placing a blue light in her window. In 1999 the Horsham Township Police Department planted a tree in Deep Meadow Park on Horsham Road as a memorial to those officers. The evergreen tree is decorated every holiday season with 1,000 blue lights representing all Law Enforcement Officers. We would like to ask each of you to please consider placing a blue light in your window during the holiday season to show your support for your police officers.http://www.fallenofficersremembered.org/project-blue-light/

The choice of blue lights for windows is amusing considering the connotation known by anyone who has lived overseas in Europe. Since they are such attention whores it is very apropos.

Interact with them as little as possible and your life will be better. How you do that is up to you.
