Trey Gowdy Is Not A Conservative Leader

The Cold Hard Truth

By: goldwaterconservative ( (http://www.redstate.com/diary/freedomrepublican/)Diary (http://www.redstate.com/diary/freedomrepublican/)) | January 6th, 2015 at 05:58 PM |

Former Congressman Allen West has a massive following. He is loud and bombastic. His followers think he is rock-solid conservative and is their response to Obama, the first black President. It turns out he was decidedly mediocre (http://congress.freedomworks.org/legislators/allen-west) when he served in Congress, despite his fiery rhetoric.

Congressman Trey Gowdy is a similar case. He is known for his epic demonstrations of wit during oversight committee hearings. While Gowdy does vote a lot better (http://congress.freedomworks.org/legislators/trey-gowdy) than Allen West, he’s not by any means a standard bearer when it comes to policy votes. For example, he voted against prohibiting the indefinite detention of American citizens back in July (http://www.thenewamerican.com/freedomindex/profile.php?id=G000566), and his work on immigration has Mark Levin calling him a “RINO. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) Says His Preferred Method of Stopping Obama is to Let John McCain Do It By: Erick Erickson (http://www.redstate.com/users/erick/) (Diary (http://www.redstate.com/diary/erick/)) | December 4th, 2014 at 12:13 AM

Now this is just pathetic.

Some of you turned Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC)87% into the hero of the day because of his Benghazi investigation. He could do no wrong. What happens when you build a cult of personalty around any politician is then they can go BOHICA on you.

Bend over America. Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC)87% is now on record admitting he’s going to help shove President Obama’s amnesty plan right where you don’t want it.
On Fox News yesterday, Gowdy was asked about President Obama’s plan. He said the President had no authority.
Asked again by Fox News’s Bill Hemmer, Gowdy was insistent the President could not do what he did and had to treat congress as a co-equal branch of government.
So, Hemmer asked Gowdy who he’d stop the President. Gowdy’s answer? He wants to let Sen. John McCain (R-AZ)49% handle it by tying up unrelated Presidential nominations in the Senate.

@TreyGowdy (https://twitter.com/TreyGowdy) is for the exact same "DREAMER" amnesty as Cantor was. Do any of you read? RT@Will (https://twitter.com/Will) CRUZ/WEST 2016 TREY GOWDY FOR SPEAKER.

After the hearing, Gowdy, who chairs the Immigration and Border Security subcommittee, called King’s comments to Newsmax “reprehensible.”

Gowdy also took offense at King’s criticism during the hearing of the South Carolinian’s own comments about needing a permanent immigration law solution.
“Did you hear his five minutes?” Gowdy asked a scrum of reporters about King’s statement. ”He took one line from my opening statement about a remedy that lasts a lifetime and lectures me about the rule of law. I was a prosecutor for 15 years.”

He disputes allegations that illegal immigrants are draining certain government services reserved for citizens, such as unemployment benefits and Social Security. Illegal immigrants do not qualify for such benefits.

So this brilliant lawyer thinks lawbreakers or rule breakers aren't the sort of people to make deceptions to gain, perhaps, welfare?

Representative Trey Gowdy defended efforts by the House GOP to pass an improved version of immigration reform. The South Carolina Republican, who has criticized the comprehensive immmigration bill passed by the Senate, argued that Republican opposition to immigration legislation amounts to a defense of the status quo that is neither responsible nor politically tenable for Republicans: “If I were in California in a swing district . . . I would at least want to say, ‘The party I represent has the following positions.’
