US Rep. Michael Grimm said late Monday that he will resign his seat in Congress, one week after the Staten Island, New York Republican pleaded guilty to federal tax evasion.

In April, Grimm was accused of concealing more than $1 million in revenue and failing to report hundreds of thousands of dollars in employee pay at his Manhattan restaurant Healthalicious. He was scheduled to go to trial in February and face a 20-count indictment for paying workers – some of them undocumented immigrants – off the books with cash, underpaying his taxes and committing perjury in running the Upper East Side restaurant. He reached an agreement with federal prosecutors last week and pled guilty (http://rt.com/usa/217203-grimm-guilty-tax-fraud/) to one count on Dec. 23.

Under the plea agreement, Grimm could face up to three years in federal prison. His sentencing is scheduled for June 8.

The case blossomed from a separate investigation into Grimm’s campaign finances. Though he was never charged with any campaign-related offense, a woman romantically associated with Grimm pled guilty in September to illegally funneling money to his 2010 run for Congress. Grimm has denied any knowledge of the scheme.

Grimm’s resignation will take effect after the 114th Congress convenes January 6. His absence will reduce the GOP majority in the House from 247 seats to 246. A special election will eventually decide Grimm’s successor.

A United States lawmaker confronted a reporter and threatened to throw him off of a balcony during an interview following President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address Tuesday evening.

New York Rep. Michael Grimm (R) was being interviewed by local news station NY1 when he was asked about allegations concerning a federal probe into his campaign finances. Grimm refused to answer the question and quickly walked away from the camera, but the story far from ended there.

Moments later, Grimm returned and got into the face of reporter Michael Scotto, verbally berating him for asking a question unrelated to the State of the Union speech. Despite Scotto’s assertion that he was asking a valid question, Grimm threatened to throw Scotto over the balcony and “break [him] in half.”

The entire incident was captured by NY1's cameras:

The case blossomed from a separate investigation into Grimm’s campaign finances. Though he was never charged with any campaign-related offense...They didn't have any problem trumping-up major charges on Congressman Jim Traficant on petty discrepancies on campaign funding. They found Traficant guilty on 10 charges, none reduced and gave him 7 years in prison... now I wonder why Federal charges for campaign; money laundering, bribery, racketeering, tax evasion, treason(foreign agents) foreign money, were NOT pursued with Congressman Grimm... Where did Grimm's campaign cash come from again?

Could someone research where Congressman Michael Grimm's Campaign cash, laundering of funds, and racketeering deals involve?

BTW, if many of you didn't know... another "accident" ends life of person fighting the criminal system. http://www.projectfreedomusa.org/

FBI investigation puts Republican congressman with assistant of influential Rabbi Pinto; assistant now facing embezzlement charges

An FBI investigation (http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4477384,00.html) into Republican Congressman Michael Grimm's campaign finances ties him to Israeli Rabbi Yoshiyahu Pinto through donations of more than half a million dollars, and has also led to suspicions of senior Israeli police officers accepting bribes from Pinto.

The affair came to light due to an FBI wiretap agreed to by Pinto as part of a settlement with the bureau, after Pinto filed a blackmail complaint resulting the rabbi having to testify against Grimm, the New York Republican Congressman and former FBI agent.

Grimm was under investigation by the FBI for illegal donations to his 2010 election campaign. Some of the donations reportedly came from sources affiliated with Pinto.

OK I have discovered one difference between Reps and Dems. When a Rep gets caught doing something illegal, they are 2-3 times more likely to resign.

They aren't any less likely to actually DO something illegal, they are just more likely to resign once they get caught. "more likely" does not mean "guaranteed."

On the bright side, at least the IRS will now be recouping some $1 million plus penalties in lost revenue. Yay!

Tax evasion is a noble pursuit.

Tax evasion is indeed a great thing but considering he has no problem accepting tax money from the people for his paycheck and supports neocon policies, I have no sympathy for him.

The funny thing is that the entire congress, with a couple of notable exceptions, is nothing but an auction house where the power to pillage the public is for sale to the highest bidder. But that is perfectly legal.

Grimm has a bright future as a Fox News "analyst".

He, and fellow hero, Bernard Kerik would make a nice, felonious duo.

Side note;

There is NO WAY is this turd going to spend any real time in the joint.

Tax evasion is a crime. So no.

Tax evasion is a crime. So no.

Tax avoidance thru legal means, yes.

There are a lot of things that are illegal that are noble pursuits.

I guess one example would be a Jewish person escaping a concentration camp during WWII.
